June 24, 2012
Salem News

Carol Sankovic of Canfield was installed as the 72nd president of the Ohio State Medical Association Alliance at the Capitol Club in downtown Columbus on April 26. Installed by past president Cindy Batie of Springfield, she was given a gavel made in the 1940s from a Hickory tree from President William McKinley's estate and the original pin used by the first state president. Carol served on the state board for 18 years in many capacities including president of Columbiana and Mahoning counties, district 6 director and chair of the health promotion, communications and charity cookbook committees. She and her husband, Daniel, a general surgeon at Salem Community Hospital, have two sons. During the event the local Mahoning County Alliance was presented with three state awards for most new members, best brochure and event invitations. For the first time in 18 years, the local county alliance will host the Annual Fall State Meeting on Sept. 13-14 with lectures and events planned at the Lake Club and Tippecanoe Country Club. A public health advocacy network, the OSMAA is a volunteer arm of the American Medical Association.
