Breakfast buffet will be served June 30

NORTH LIMA - A public breakfast buffet will be served from 7-10 a.m. Saturday, June 30 at the North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, North Lima.

Items served will include eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, potatoes, homemade rolls, sausage gravy and biscuits, peppers and onions, coffee, orange juice and other beverages.

Donations will be accepted. For information, call the church at 330-549-2333.

Go Green at the Park Program Series set

SALEM - Matt Brown, Wildlife and Forestry Specialist with the Columbiana Soil and Water Conservation District will present the program, "A Walk on the Nature Trail" from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 at Waterworth Memorial Park.

The Go Green at the Park Program Series is presented through a partnership of Salem City Parks and Salem Public Library.

During the educational hike along the park's nature trail, Brown will lead an exploration of the plant life along the trail. Attendees should gather at pavilion #9 to begin the hike.

Appleseed Festival deadline approaching

LISBON - Deadline is approaching for 2012 Johnny Appleseed Festival Little Mr. Applebud and Little Miss Appleblossom Contest.

The contest is open to all Columbiana County children between the ages of 4 and 9.

Applications must be in by June 20. Applications are available by contacting the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce Office at 330-424-1803.

Lisbon driver ed classes will start June 20

LISBON - AAA Driver Education classes will be held at Lisbon High School, beginning June 20.

All area students are eligible to attend Including home-schooled students.

Lisbon Grange Festival is June 30

LISBON - The Lisbon Grange Strawberry Festival will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. at the grange hall which is located three miles west of Lisbon along state Route 30.

Served will be homemade ice cream, hot sandwiches, baked beans and potato salad.

Speaker will discuss 'Idora Park'

COLUMBIANA - Richard Scarsella of the William H. McGuffey Historical Society will present a program on "Idora Park" at 12:15 p.m. Monday.

The program is presented by the Columbiana Women's Club as part of its Lunch and Learn series.

The club is located at 121 North Main St. Lunch is $5 for guests and free for members/friends. Reservation are needed. Call Pat Tingle at 330-207-1470.

Rudy and the Professionals' will perform

COLUMBIANA - The Firestone Park Summer Concert Series will present "Rudy and the Professionals" from 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

The show is Caribbean-style music. Farmers Bank of Columbiana invites families to enjoy this Father's Day concert with special giveaways.

The concert will be cancelled in case of inclement weather. For additional information call 330-482-3822.

Cub Scout Day Camp is June 18-22

LISBON - The Sandy Beaver District Boy Scouts of America will be hosting its annual Cub Scout Day Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18-22 at the historic McKinley Scout Reservation in Lisbon.

This year's them is C.L.U.E. Cubs Learn Using Exploration - involving daily "investigatory" activities.

Registered scouts ages 7 to 11 are invited to attend the weeklong activities which include archery, BB guns, fishing, swimming, nature studies, field sports and hiking.

A special feature this year includes a walking history of the Sandy Beaver Canal that runs through the scout camp.

Any scout wishing to attend can register the first day and will have access to all scheduled events and activities. Registration and medical forms are available by contacting Gregg Warner, Camp Director at 330-967-0880.

Washingtonville VFW will host fish fry

WASHINGTONVILLE- The Washingtonville VFW will host a fish fry from 2 to 7 p.m. June 23.

A DJ will follow. Cost is $8.50. Carryouts will be available.

Leetonia Library showing movie

LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library will be showing the family movie "Balto" at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Light refreshments will be served and there will be a prize drawing. Attending the movie counts toward Summer Reading.

Free colon health seminar will be held

ALLIANCE- A free colon health community seminar will be held at 6 p.m. June 19 in Conference Room 1-A at the Alliance Community Hospital, 200 E. State St. Light refreshments will be provided.

Flag Day celebration will be held

DUNGANNON - Cardinal Mercier Assembly #804 and Father Cavanaugh Assembly #3145, Knights of Columbus, will host a Flag Day celebration at 1 p.m. Sunday at Saint Paul Cemetery, 11926 Gavers Road.

Bishop George Murry will be the main celebrant of festivities that will include a mass, a dedication (with military honor guard) of a flagpole donated by the James Gruber Family and a new arch over the entrance donated by the Furey Family.

All are invited to attend this celebration which will feature a picnic style (under a tent) meal with the meat and drink provided by the knights. Those attending are being asked to bring table service for their group and a covered dish or dessert to be shared. Author will speak at Columbiana Library

COLUMBIANA- Local author Glenn Downing will speak from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 26 at the Columbiana Public Library.

Author of "Global Warring and the Land of Zinj," Downing will share his story and that of the Downing Family navigating through the world wars and great socio-economic-political developments that occurred during the 20th century. Registration is required.

Call the library at 330-482-5509 to sign up. Copies of the Global Warring and the Land of Zinj will be available for purchase from the author.

Downing was born in Kenya, East Africa, the third generation of missionaries. He served as a fighter pilot in the Marine Corps during the Cold War, including service in Vietnam, and was a corporate pilot for an oil contractor in the Persian Gulf at the beginning of the present Islamofascist movement. He concluded his 40-year flying career as an airline captain with USAirways.

Safety Day, Health Fair is June 23

COLUMBIANA- Heroes and Halos Special Needs Safety Day and Interactive Health Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 23 at the Firestone Park.

The event is designed for families of individuals of all ages who have disabilities, special needs, health problems or issues of any kind.

There will be Public Safety Services present such as Columbiana Fire Department, EMS and Police Department. STAT Medevac and Air Evac are also planning on being in attendance.

There will also be approximately 28 agencies present from Mahoning and Columbiana Counties who will be there to answer any questions about the services that are available to individuals who have disabilities and special needs. The agencies will also be providing games and activities at each site. All members of the family are welcome.

There will be free hot dogs, chips and drinks, a fishing derby and crafts provided by Columbiana Safety Services. For information visit www.heroesandhalos.org.

Red, White and Blue concert is June 22-24

COLUMBIANA- The Main Street Theater will host the RATTS (Rockin' Around the Town Square) Red, White and Blue concert at 8 p.m. on June 22, 23 and 24.

The RATTS band will give a new twist on historic and well known patriotic songs with their familiar rock and roll arrangements. The set list of 18 songs includes "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and a medley of theme songs from every branch of the U.S. military.

Christopher Lee Bayda is the musical director for the show. There are plans to honor local service men and women at each show. Tickets are $7. For information visit www.mytheatercompany.com or call 330-482-9647.

'Arsenic and Old Lace' auditions planned

COLUMBIANA- Crown Theater Productions will hold auditions at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Main Street Theater for men's parts only for its upcoming production of "Arsenic and Old Lace." Use the back entrance in the alley at theater.

4-H Day Camp scheduled July 2

CANFIELD- The Mahoning County 4-H program will hold its annual 4-H Day Camp at 4-H Camp Whitewood in Windsor, Ohio, in Ashtabula County on July 2. The day camp is open to any youth between the ages of 5 and 8 (must have completed kindergarten).

Youth do not need to be 4-H members to attend. A chartered bus will transport youth and adult chaperones to the camp.

The fee is $30 and includes the bus ride, swimming, crafts, lunch, s'mores around a campfire and lots of fun and opportunities to make new friends.

Day campers will be supervised by trained counselors and permanent camp staff. Registration and full payment is due by June 29. Camp will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
