Prep Roundup - Western Reserve softball stays unbeaten in league

BERLIN CENTER - Western Reserve remained unbeaten in Tier 2 of the Inter-Tri County League with a 7-2 win over McDonald Friday.

Leading the Lady Blue Devils was April Lude with a home run and two RBIs. Sissy Stubbs added two hits including a double and an RBI. Brittney Lude socked two hits including a double and drove in a run, and Alexis Little and Tory White both doubled.

Brittney Lude improved to 7-0 on the hill this season striking out three and giving up just four hits.

Western Reserve (13-3, 10-0 ITCL Tier 2) plays a doubleheader against Austintown-Fitch and Labrae in Austintown today beginning at 11 a.m.

NEW MIDDLETOWN - Springfield dropped United 8-2 Friday. With the win the Tigers improve to 13-3 and 9-1 in Tier 1 of the ITCL.

Cody Pitzo had four hits and four RBIs for the Tigers. Matt Chicase had three hits and three RBIs.

Joe Ohlin got the win on the hill striking out two in four shutout innings of work.

For United, Tanner Moats had two hits including a double.

SPRINGFIELD: 440 000 X - 8-13-1

Western Reserve 5, McDonald 1

MCDONALD - Western Reserve topped McDonald 5-1 on Thursday. Leading the Blue Devils was Thomas Benyo who had two hits, two stolen bases and a run scored. Benyo also improved to 4-1 on the hill for the season tossing a complete game and allowing just four hits.

Tristan Bova added two hits, a run and an RBI. Tommy Marlowe doubled and drove in two, and John Rosati had two hits, two runs and two stolen bases.

With the win, Western Reserve improved to 8-5, 5-2 ITCL Tier 2.

Poland 9, South Range 8

STRUTHERS - Poland defeated South Range 9-8 in eight innings at Cene Park Friday.

Colin Reardon had three hits including a double and four RBIs for the Bulldogs (10-7).

For Range, Mason Miller had four hits and two RBIs. Bill Goodall, Zach Thorpe, Dan Macinga, Gary Miler and Robby Seman all had two hits.

South Range (10-7, 7-1 ITCL Tier 1) hosts Warren JFK in a doubleheader today.

CORTLAND - The Salem tennis team suffered another close loss to Lakeview Friday 3-2. In matches played, the Quakers actually tied Lakeview 2-2 but had to forfeit their third singles match.

Salem (5-6) hosts Canton South Tuesday.

EAST PALESTINE - The Rootstown girls and Western Reserve Academy boys won the East Palestine Relays Friday.

East Palestine's Chloe Snyder and Ashley Morris set a meet record in the high jump with 10-feet combined.

The Columbiana girls finished sixth out of eight teams. The East Palestine boys took fifth out of nine.

Columbiana's Shayla Ray won the long jump relay (15-11.75). Britton Steiginga won the boys long jump relay (21-06).

The Columbiana boys 4x200 relay team of Craig Smith, Jared Hill, Steiginga and Noah McBride took first (1:36.14).

East Palestine's Zach Brockman won the high jump relay (6-0).
