Salem Junior Mother's Club

SALEM-The Salem Junior Mother's Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of Cristi Kopachy.

Drive-thru chicken dinners

SALEM-"Chicken on the Run" drive-thru chicken dinners will be sold from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, or until sold out, at the First United Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway Ave. The dinner includes a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie. Cost is $7. As drivers arrive to the (south) entrance of the church, dinners will be handed to them in their cars, starting at 4 p.m.

DAHS 1946-47 lunch planned

LISBON-The David Anderson High School classes of 1946 and 1947 are invited to lunch at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Taste of Country Restaurant.

Artist reception set

EAST LIVERPOOL-The Ohio Valley Regional Arts Council will hold a reception for Columbiana graphic artist Michael Whitfield from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kent State East Liverpool Mary Patterson Gallery, 213 E. Fourth St. The exhibit runs through April 19.

Whitfield harnessed his passion and skill for drawing and illustration as a child. He was enrolled in advanced art classes by the age of 10 and developed his talents as a teenager. Many of his featured hand-drawn illustrations were created while he was still in high school and college. Today he specializes in commercial graphic arts, vector creations and hand drawn illustrations. With eight years experience as a professional graphic artist, he excels at the ability to create a diverse amount of promotional materials and literature. Over the past eight years, he has worked for the Morning Journal, Lyle Printing and Publishing and is currently working for Steelite International. Food and beverages are provided.

Mad Science at library

SALEM-The Salem Public Library will welcome Mad Science at 11 a.m. Friday in the gymnasium at the Memorial Building. The Mad Scientist will work his magic with "Fire and Ice" in an educational and fun performance. This free event is open to families with children under the age of 12. Registration is required at the library or by calling 330-332-0042 (option 3).

Meet new EP?police chief

EAST PALESTINE- A "Meet and Greet" for the new Police Chief, Pete Monteleone and family, will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the East Palestine Community Center.

Guilford Lake Easter egg hunt

GUILFORD LAKE-An Easter egg hunt will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on Route 172 at Hanna Drive. Children up to sixth grade are invited.

VFW steak fry and dance

LISBON-The public is invited to a steak fry and dance on Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4111, 210 E. Lincoln Way. Steak and chicken dinners will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with salad, baked potato or fresh cut french fries, roll and coffee. The dance follows from 8 to 11 p.m. with music provided by Last Time Around. Admission to the dance is $5, and free with the purchase of a meal. Reservations are due by Friday by calling 330-424-7586.

Swiss steak dinner in Winona

WINONA-The Winona Friends Church on Whinnery Road will serve a Swiss steak dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Carryouts are available. For more information call 330-222-1551.

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1944 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. April 9 at Adele's Place.

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1948 will meet for breakfast at 10 a.m. April 10 at Adele's Place.

Southern Local kindergarten

SALINEVILLE-Southern Local School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 11 and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 12 at the school.

Prospective students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2012. Parents must have the child's birth certificate, up-to-date immunization record (five DPT, four polio, three Hepatitis B and two Varicella), Social Security card, custody documents (if applicable), and proof of residency. The child does not need to be present for registration. Testing/screening will be held in August and parents will be notified of date and time. Appointments for registration may be made by calling 330-679-2301 Ext. 250 or 251.

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1953 will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. April 12 in the Fairway Room at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Guilford Lake fish fry

GUILFORD LAKE-An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. April 13 at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on Route 172 at Hanna Drive. Cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children.

Goshen extension to meet

SALEM-Goshen Home Extension plans to meet at 11 a.m. April 13 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Mock crash planned

LISBON-Family Recovery Center's Education Department is sponsoring a mock crash for high school juniors and seniors. The event will take place, rain or shine, at 11:15 a.m. April 13. Students from eight schools will be in attendance. Local fire, police and EMT will assist with this event.

North Benton breakfast

NORTH BENTON- A community all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11 a.m. April 14 at the North Benton Presbyterian Church. Cost is $6 for adults and $3.50 for ages 6 to 12.

Downtown Clean-Up Day

SALEM-The Salem Downtown Clean-Up Day, sponsored by the Salem Beautifcation Committee, kicks off at 9 a.m. April 14. Participants are asked to meet at 9 a.m. at McCulloch Park, next to Troll's Jewelry, and bring leaf blowers, rakes, clippers, etc., and mark all personal items.

SALEM-Former AT&T-Ohio Bell Telephone Operators will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. April 19 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Financial skills conference

YOUNGSTOWN-Junior Achievement of the Mahoning Valley and Associated School Employees Credit Union will host its fifth annual financial life skills conference, "Financial Starting Points" for area high school students from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 19 at Youngstown State University, Kilcawley Center.

Participants will attend informative financial sessions on credit and investing along with a hands-on "reality" experience where they visit tables representing different monthly expenses and make financial decisions based on their assigned salaries and life situations. Local business professionals will be on hand to guide the students through the process. A $100 stipend per school will be provided to help cover busing costs. Breakfast at St. Paul

SALEM-The Knights of Columbus is hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast and 50/50 drawing from 8 to 11 a.m. April 22 at St. Paul School gym. Donations will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit Cub Scouts Pack 6.
