CANFIELD -Officers for 2012 were elected at the March meeting of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. The officers are Michele Awad, president; Sam Barnhouse, vice president; Greta Frost, secretary/treasurer; William Wainio, assistant secretary/treasurer; and Hannah Mowery and Meghan Svetlak, news reporters. The board will meet on April 19 at the Colonial Inn on the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Awad thanked the members for helping with the Mahoning County Quality Assurance Program. Members signed up to assist with the Animal Baby Shower on April 1 at Metroparks Farm and volunteered to help with the Boy Scout fish fry on April 5 at Western Reserve High School.
Members broke into groups and participated in an interactive program: "Understanding Special Needs" that was introduced by Kim Moff, Canfield Junior Fair Manager. Members put corn in their shoes, taped around their finger joints on one hand, a rubber glove on their other hand and plastic wrap over their eyes to get the sense of physical disabilities. They did multiple activities with their gear on and then came back together and watched a PowerPoint Presentation about working with special need youth and adults.
