WEST POINT - State Highway Patrol troopers were involved in a highspeed chase on Friday that sent two suspects to the hospital.
According to a press release, troopers were attempting to stop a vehicle for a marked lanes violation around 6 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 30 near West Point, when the vehicle refused to stop. Troopers pursued the vehicle for approximately seven miles and hits speeds nearing 70 miles per hour before the vehicle crashed on Hibbets Mills Road, near Wellsville.
The release further states that troopers chased one suspect on foot following the crash. During the foot chase, a trooper shot a suspect in the ankle. A passenger in the vehicle also sustained minor injuries in the crash. Both were transported to St. Elizabeth's in Youngstown.
The incident is still under investigation, and the patrol's Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was on the scene for that investigation.
