ALLIANCE - West Branch's Connor Sharp was the only Warrior left standing after Division II district wrestling tournament action on Saturday at Alliance High School.
Sharp, a heavyweight, beat Benedictine's Joe Nawalaniec 2-1 in the consolation final to place third.
Sharp fought his way back from a 1-0 loss to Perry's Billy Miller in the championship semifinals. He defeated Ravenna's Cody Hawkins 3-1 in the consolation semifinals to earn the right to wrestle for third.
Fellow Warrior Mike Estock (138) also started the day in the winners bracket, but lost to Walsh Jesuit's Nate Skoniecny in the semifinals.
Estock next lost a 3-1 heartbreaker to Kyle Harris of Northwest.
The Warriors took nine grapplers to the District Tournament and had seven advance to Saturday, but only Sharp finished with a trip to the state tournament.
Other Warriors who survived to wrestle into the second day of the tournament included Tyler Pidgeon (113), Kenny Faulkner (145), William Paynter (160), Aaron Page (170) and Joe Karlen (182).
Salem's Scott Lodge (145), who earned a pin over Fairless' Tyler Shepard before suffering a 4-2 decision to Woodridge's Alex Minns on Friday, also closed the book on the 2011-12 season with a DQ loss to Caleb Easton of Kenmore.
The state wrestling tournament begins Thursday at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University.
