Interim pastor welcomed

SALEM-The congregation of Southeast Friends Evangelical Friends Church at 1300 Franklin Ave. will host a "welcome luncheon" on Sunday for Pastor Duane Rice and his wife, Carol. He comes to Salem from the Evangelical Friends Eastern Region as an interim and will be serving in this capacity until a full-time pastor is called.

Pastor Rice has served in ministry for 38 plus years in churches in Deerfield and Van Wert, Ohio and Virginia Beach, Va., along with serving on many boards within Evangelical Friends. The luncheon follows the 10:45 a.m. service.

Beef tip and noodle dinner

NORTH LIMA-The Good Hope Lutheran Church at 12030 Market St. will serve its annual beef tip and noodle dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 18. The meal includes a tossed salad, bread, beverage, cherry pie and ice cream. Carryouts are available. Cost is $7.50 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for under 6. Free health lecture/workshop

DAMASCUS-The fitness ministry at the Damascus Friends Church is sponsoring a free health lecture/workshop from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Feb. 18 in the Canyon View Room.

"Your Body ... God's Holy Temple: The Importance of Removing Harmful Toxins from Your Body, will be presented by Dr. Michael A. James of the Center For Holistic Medicine. Shrove Tuesday pancake supper

NORTH LIMA-The annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake and Sausage supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, 410 W. South Range Road. Donations will be accepted.

Financial Peace University

NORTH GEORGETOWN-Financial Peace University begins Sunday at First Brethren Church, 27333 Main St. Two class sessions are planned: 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. weekly through April 29. Additional information is available by calling 330-525-0595 or at

Cost for the 13 sessions is $89 per family. The session this Sunday is open to the public at no charge. Alumni of past classes may attend any session free with their previous workbook.

Financial Peace University teaches sound financial management. The course was developed by Dave Ramsey, a money management expert and New York Times best-selling author of The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace, More than Enough, and the recently released Entreleadership.
