Alliance 76, Salem 62
ALLIANCE - Already Northeastern Buckeye Conference champions, the Alliance Aviators are now shooting for an unbeaten regular season.
After a 76-62 win over visiting Salem Friday night they are one step closer.
The Quakers stayed close to the Aviators through the first half trailing 22-15 after one quarter and just 31-26 at half.
But the third quarter was all Alliance. Rather, it was all the brothers Martin. Panich and Vern Martin combined for 20 of the Aviators' 33 third-quarter points to help the team pull away for the win. Vern totaled 16 points, Panich added 15, and J.J. Kukura added 15 more to lead Alliance (18-0, 12-0 NBC).
Salem was led by Ryan Bush who tallied a game-high 20 points. Trent Kenreigh tacked on 15 points. Max Wolfgang chipped in nine, and Anthony Shivers added eight.
The Quakers lost for the sixth time in seven games and has just one remaining league contest next Friday against Louisville.
Up first for Salem, (5-12, 2-11 NBC) however, is a trip to Campbell Tuesday where the team hopes to get some momentum going heading into the postseason.
- The Quakers filed a report with Alliance police following the game after nearly $300 in cash as well as other assorted items including headphones were stolen from the team's locker room during the game.
