SALEM-William Lloyd Ashcraft, 91, of 903 Elberon Ave., Salem, Ohio, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at his residence following a period of failing health.
He was born in Fairmont, W.V. on April 5, 1920, a son of the late Charles and Dessa (Summers) Ashcraft.
On Feb. 5, 1950, he married the former Barbara S. Masters who survives. He had resided in Fairmont, W.Va., all of his life, having moved to Salem, Ohio, in 1992. He was employed as a truck driver and in the maintenance department of Union Mission, Fairmont, W.Va., from which he retired. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during W.W. II. He was a member of the Merrifield Memorial AMW Church, Fairmont, W.Va.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susann C. Thawley and her husband Rev. Roger L. Thawley of Salem, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jonathan David Thawley of Knoxville, Tenn., Regina Faith Thawley and Roanna Joy Thawley of Salem, Ohio; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Susann Thawley, Knoxville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edwin B. Ashcraft and Robert S. Acshcraft, and two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Charlotte Ekis.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Connecting Point, Chapel, 12275 Beloit Snodes Road, Beloit, Ohio, where the service will follow at 4 p.m.
On Monday, the family will receive friends at the Merrifield Memorial AMW Church, 1265 Bell Run Road, Fairmont, W.Va., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where the service celebrating the life of Mr. Ashcraft will follow at 1 p.m. The interment will be at the Marion County Grandview Memorial Gardens, Fairmont, W.Va.
