It began over a century ago. In 1904 St. Paul School in Salem got its start. Since then, thousands of students have received solid education provided against a spiritual backdrop.
The school has produced a number of teachers, doctors, engineers and upstanding members across all professions. Many of whom remain in the Salem area today. Some have had their children exposed to the St. Paul experience.
Once instructing students through the 8th grade, St. Paul School is now pre-kindergarten through the 6th grade. Its mission: "...is to educate the mind, body, and spirit of each child. By proclaiming gospel values, building faith communities, and performing service to others, St. Paul School is committed to promoting and continuing the Catholic faith tradition." It has done that.
Patricia Bauman has served the St. Paul community for decades. First as a teacher, beginning in 1973 and then, since 2006, as its principal. She and her staff do a wonderful job in presenting an alternative early-learning option for parents wanting to combine faith and education for their children.
Catholic School Week is being observed beginning this Sunday. We will be providing full details on events being planned in Salem. St. Paul School deserves the spotlight. It does a great job in promoting principles of the Catholic faith. Our community is better because of that.
