SALEM - Howard Rohleder, President/CEO of Salem Community Hospital, has announced his plans to retire from his current position on June 30, 2012.
Rohleder came to the hospital as Assistant Administrator in 1992 and was appointed President/CEO in 1998. Under his leadership, the hospital has seen several major expansions, including the construction of the 2001 Columbiana Medical Center; the hospital's 2003 front addition, elevated walkway and Salem Medical Center; the 2006 Central Plant and the 2009 Surgery Center.
During his tenure, the hospital also purchased cutting edge medical imaging technology, recruited physician specialists, embarked on a multi-year program to introduce the electronic medical record and introduced important programs such as the new Behavioral Medicine and Wellness program.
"The hospital and the Salem area have benefited greatly from Mr. Rohleder's expertise and vision of community health care," stated Catherine Hubbs, SCH Board Chair. "He provided the leadership necessary for the hospital to grow during turbulent economic times, ensuring that quality health care is locally available."
A special committee of the hospital's Board of Directors has been formed to name Rohleder's successor. (Submitted material)
