Verla Santee of Beloit celebrated her 95th birthday on April 3 at the home of Jim and Teresa Santee. Her children and their spouses were present.
Mrs. Santee was also honored at a surprise open house on her April 4 birthday. sponsored by grandchildren, Mindy Handy of North Georgetown and Julie Brammer of Columbiana.
Mrs. Santee was born on April 4, 1916, to Irvin and Ada Cobbs. She was married for 65 years to her late husband, Wendell. Most of her life has been dedicated to her expert homemaking skills. Also for many years she had a small business in her home making cakes for weddings and special events. Baking was and still is her main hobby. She still makes cookies and enjoys the smiles they bring.
The honoree has five children, Joyce (Mike) Stiffler, Jane (Don) Hardy, Nancy (Tom) Jones, Jim (Teresa) Santee, and the late Duane Santee. She also has 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Santee is a life time member of the Damascus Friends Church, actively involved all her life.
