Betty Bircher of Damascus was recently honored by her family on the occasion of her 90th birthday. She was born Jan. 12, 1921, to Curtis and Unity Shreve. A resident of Damascus for most of her life, she graduated from Goshen High School and the College of Wooster. She married Glenn Bircher on Nov. 14, 1942. While he served overseas during World War II, she was employed as an elementary teacher. They owned and operated Canfield and Carrollton livestock auctions. He passed away in 1990. She continued to work at the Carrollton auction until retiring in 2005. The honoree has four children, Peggy (Joe) Dossi, Tim Bircher, Marty (John) Leask and the late Jack Bircher; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is a member of the Damascus Friends Church, Damascus Garden Club and Damascus Magazine Club.
