Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rea Jr. of 853A Superior Ave., Salem, are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. A catered family dinner was held on Oct. 9 at the First Friends Church.
The former Virginia Bartges and Mr. Rea were married on Oct. 11, 1945, by the Rev. Robert Mosher at the First Friends Church.
The festivities were hosted by their children and spouses are Dr. and Mrs. Lance (Joanne) Duvall of Georgetown, S.C., Dr. and Mrs. Jack (Celesta) Rea of Hong Kong, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Marsha) Hodgson and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel (Mary Kay) Rea, all of Salem, and Dr. and Mrs. Adrian (Lisa) Halverstadt of Haviland, Kan.
They also have 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Rea retired in 1984 from Salem Community Hospital where he was maintenance supervisor. A builder who developed the Rea Drive area, he also was employed as a plant manager at Sterling Salem Corp and as a plant engineer at Standard Transformer Co. in Warren. During World War II he served in the First Infantry Division.
Mrs. Rea was employed as a registered nurse at SCH, retiring in 1984.
They are active members of the First Friends Church.
