Mr. and Mrs. Gail L. Phillis celebrate 60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Gail L. Phillis of 3308 Depot Road, Salem, observed their 60th wedding anniversary on March 14 at the Family Restaurant in Alliance. Guests included their attendants, Patricia Ossler, the bride's sister; Dorothy McFadden, the bride's sister-in-law; and Jennie (Mozina) Jackson, the bride's friend.

The celebration was hosted by their children, Mrs. Diana (Rorie) Reiter, Michael (Lynn) Phillis and Gail Lea Phillis Jr., all of Salem, Scott (Peggy) Phillis of Lisbon, Jerry (Kim) Phillis of New Waterford, Mrs. Janet (Ed) DiBaggio of Broadview Heights and Richard (Krystal) Phillis of Lansing, Mich.

The couple also has 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Phillis is a farmer and retired from trucking in 1979. He drove bus for United Schools from 1979-2008. He has parts and service for old Ford tractors which he restores also.

Mrs. Phillis is retired. She was the family bookkeeper and also was the office manager for the former Heck's Department Store.

Mr. and Mrs. Phillis are members of AARP and the Phillips Christian Church where he served as a deacon and she chaired the bereavement meals for many years. Mrs. Phillis also edited and published the church paper each month for 62 years.

The former Barbara Jean McFadden and Mr. Phillis were married on March 18, 1950, at the Phillips Christian Church, at the second wedding to be held in the "old" PCC. They have lived in the same house, where Mr. Phillis was born in 1928, since their wedding.
