Arthur C. Huk Jr.

COLUMBIANA - Arthur C. Huk Jr., 78, died at 10:55 p.m. Thursday at Hospice House, Poland.

Mr. Huk was born May 13, 1931 in Sewickley, Pa., a son of Arthur C. and Sarah Emerick Huk, Sr. and had lived in this area most of his life.

He was a 1948 graduate of Columbiana High School and attended Kent State University. He had been employed as a truck driver with Schneider Trucking for many years, and prior to that with Herron Transfer, Salem.

He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana.

He is survived by his wife, the former Dena Davids whom he married Sept. 9, 1990; two daughters, Penny (Joseph) Rance of Salem and Krystal Smith of Columbiana; two sons, Dennis Huk of Columbiana and Konrad Huk of Canonsburg, Pa.; two step daughters, Dorothy (Rich) VanTil of Crete, Ill., and Sherrill (Rick) Kuiper of Cedar Lake, Ind.; and a step son, Tom (Robin) Ruiter of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Patricia Dinsio of North Lima and Sandy Huk of Cornersburg; a brother, James Huk of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three grandchildren, Katharine (Jeff) Smith Jackson of Greenville, Pa., Matt Huk and Nate Huk, both of Columbiana; eight step grandchildren; one great grandchild, Emily Grace Jackson; and six step great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold "Bill" Huk.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana with Pastor Paula Archdeacon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, material tributes may be made to Hospice of the Valley. Arrangements were made by the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
