Omega Council holds annual inspection

SALEM-Omega Council of York Rite Masonry held its annual inspection at the Salem Masonic Building on Dec. 10. The inspection degree was the Royal Master Degree, conferred on one candidate, Ernest Greenisen of Salem. The inspection officer was Richard Amelung. The Illustrious Grand Master William Laughlin was also in attendance. Steve Ronshausen presided for the inspection. A donation was made to the Diabetic Children fund by Omega Council. The fund is for kids who cannot afford to go to special camp for diabetes. Without this fund many kids would never learn to control their diabetes. A fellowship hour followed.

Square Wheels observe Christmas with party

SALEM- The Salem Square Wheels held their annual Christmas Party Saturday at the Sebring Community Center on West Texas Avenue. There were over 40 in attendance. JoAnn and Virgil Yeager of Deerfield, along with Don and Theresa Brown of Alliance, hosted the event. Calling squares was Ed Pabst of Marietta, Ohio, and cuing rounds was Kristy Lake of Hanoverton. The next club dance will be 8 p.m. Jan. 9. Visitors are always welcome.

Weingart Cousins plan meeting for Jan. 12

SALEM- The Weingart Cousins welcomed Bryan Weingart when they met recently, with 22 present. Birthdays and anniversaries were observed. The next breakfast will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 12 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Greenford Ruritans meet for Christmas

COLUMBIANA- The Greenford Ruritan Club held its annual Christmas Party at the Das Dutch Village Inn on Dec. 12, with President Bill Pitts presiding. Club members and their guests enjoyed a fine buffet dinner and a show, "Christmas in the Inn," presented by The 34 West Theater Company. The new club officers for 2010 were introduced and installed by member Ed Kurtz and include: G.L.Mears, president; Rob White, vice president; Jack Velk, secretary; Dennis Hawk, treasurer; and Ryan Hull, Jeff Fishel, Fred Hoff and Bill Pitts, directors. Member Ralph Witmer was recognized and thanked by the club for planning and setting up the 2009 Christmas Party.

Salem Aglow to meet for prayer and share

ALLIANCE-A prayer and share meeting will be held when Salem Aglow Lighthouse meets at 10 a.m. Jan. 5 at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery. There is a $3 donation. An optional lunch follows. Scheduled to speak in February is Hope Williams.

Country Friends hold Christmas party

ROGERS-The Country Friends 4-H Club held its meeting and Christmas party recently at the Rogers Sale Dining Hall. Ashton Unger led the pledges. The group selected the electives: Ashton Unger as president, Cory Cusik as vice president, Mallory Ruitz as secretary and Alissa Baer as treasurer. Other officers are Kaylee Shafer, news reporter; Lucy Baer, devotions; Madison Meek, health reporter; and Courtney Campbell, safety reporter.

Seven and One Club has progressive dinner

SALEM-The Seven and One Club kicked off its progressive dinner on Dec. 6 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hively. Salad and soup was served. The group then moved on to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bruderly for the main course. Apple pie was served for dessert at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Kaufman.

The regular club meeting and Christmas party was held Dec. 16 at the Hively home. Dinner was served at 7 p.m. followed by cards. Tracy Sekely was a guest. Prizes in 500 were won by Mrs. Gerald Mincks, first; Mrs. Ken Kaufman, second; Mrs. Jack Bruderly, low; and Sekely, travel. Those attending enjoyed the secret name gift exchange. Members plan to celebrate New Year's Eve together with dinner at Drake's Landing followed by festivities at the Bruderly home. Meetings resume at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Kaufman home.

R-Weigh groups cancel Dec. 28 meetings

SALEM-The R-Weigh weight reducing groups met Monday at the Faith Chapel. The good losers of the week were Sue Carver, Helen Baker and Birdie Reinhart. The goalies of the week were Jane Yonkey and Virginia Ciotti.

The l p.m. and 5 p.m. meetings will be canceled on Dec. 28 because of the holiday week. The Jan. 4 meeting will be Rally Back Day for all previous members.

Western Reserve Rangers seek members

ELLSWORTH-Early and ongoing involvement in 4-H helps young people develop confidence and leadership skills that stay with them into adulthood. Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club invites all youth who are 8 years old, and in the third grade, through 18 years to come to their Jan. 14 meeting at 7 p.m. at the Ellsworth Fire Hall to learn more about 4-H and how Ohio 4-H meets the needs of today's youth.

Some of the specialties of the Rangers 4-H Club are, but not limited to, group projects like sewing classes and shooting sports (rifle, pistol, shotgun and archery), market animal projects, including all poultry, public speaking and power point presentations, as well as county and state 4-H camps. There are over 200 projects to choose from in the Ohio 4-H Program. A Family Guide that lists and describes these projects is available from Jan and Kathleen Moser by calling 330-547-7422.

Ranger members David and Jessica Corll, Sarah Hernan and Katherine Pitcairn attended the Dec. 3 County Junior Leader meeting at the O.S. U. Extension Service Office in Canfield. The Junior Leader Club meets the first Thursday of each month and is open to all teens. The club's Christmas party was held on Dec. 18.

On Jan. 5, Ranger members of the Canfield Junior Fair Board will be traveling to the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, for the Ohio Fairs Managers Conference.

The Ohio 4-H Teen Conference will be held Feb. 20 in Columbus. Last year the Rangers had over 20 members, parents and advisors attend the conference. Kathleen Moser will be leading a session titled "You Did What With My Jeans?" Learn how to recycle those old jeans into purses, I-Pod/Cell Phone carriers, and unique vests.

Divorce Care program

to begin Jan. 10

SALEM-Divorce Care, a 13-week divorce recovery program, will begin Jan. 10 at First Friends Church, 1028 Jennings Ave.

The Divorce Care sessions, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., features nationally recognized experts on divorce and recovery.

Sessions cover topics such as anger, loneliness, depression, financial survival, children and new relationships.

Participants will be among others who are also experiencing separation and divorce.

The group facilitators have been impacted by divorce and have an understanding of what others experience.

Participants will learn how to deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding their lives. All discussions are kept in strict confidence.

There is a charge of $7 to cover the workbook used for the program.
