Salem AMVETS host New Year's Eve dance
SALEM - Salem AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave., will host a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31 with the band Damaged Goods. Post members and non-members are welcome to attend, with members free and the non-member cost $5 for food. Members must pick up their tickets at Post 45 for members and non-members.
East Palestine Chamber to meet
EAST PALESTINE - The East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce Meeting will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at 21 N Market Street (upstairs). A Holiday Mixer will follow.
ACT Preparation Workshop set
SALEM- Workforce Development and Continuing Studies at Kent State Salem and East Liverpool are offering an ACT Preparation Workshop. The 8-hour workshop (done in two four-hour sessions) is designed to assist in achieving better scores on the American College Test (ACT) and to expose students to efficient test-taking techniques. Students will review types of questions often found on the ACT. The textbook Barron's "How to Prepare for the ACT Assessment" is provided. The workshop is being held on Saturday, Jan, 23 and Saturday, Jan, 30, from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the Salem location on State Route 45 or in East Liverpool at the campus on East Fourth Street. The fee is $75, which includes the textbook. Classes for Nurses Aide test offered
SALEM - Kent State Salem and East Liverpool Workforce Development and Continuing Studies will again be offering the State Tested Nurse Aide classes beginning in January. This 75-hour class prepares students to take the TCEP Examination to receive Certification to be a State Tested Nurse Aide. This part-time program, which is held in the evenings includes classroom and clinical experience and is designed to prepare students to take the state competency exam. These classes will be held at the Kent Salem City Center on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 9 p.m., beginning Jan. 19 and ending March 25. At the Kent East Liverpool location, they will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m., beginning Jan. 25 and ending on March 24. The cost for the class, including text and workbook, is $550. There is an additional need for a uniform and shoes, estimated to cost $80. The fee for the competency examination is $100. Columbiana plans North Elm water shut down
COLUMBIANA - The city of Columbiana announced plans to shut off water on North Elm Street beginning at 8 a.m. Monday for a six-hour period or until work is completed for a hydrant replacement. Streets affected include North Elm Street from East Park Avenue to Parkview Drive, and East Salem and Herbster streets from North Main Street to North Elm Street. The area will be under a boil order until test results are known.
