Area students are members of music assoc.
ASHLAND-The following area students are members of the Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association at Ashland University:
- Hanoverton: Briana Bezeredi, 30035 Schneider Road, daughter of Michael and Ellen Bezeredi; majoring in vocal music education.
- Kensington: Bret Cowden of 11412 State Route 9, son of Andrea Cowden; majoring in music education.
OCMEA works to promote the value of music education, foster the best possible music education programs in the nation's schools, and advance music education as a profession. Its activities include the State Music Educators Convention, special programs and student recruitment. The Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association membership is open to those enrolled in a music major.
WR Rangers 4-H club has successful year
BERLIN CENTER-Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club advisors celebrated another successful 4-H year at the Mahoning County 4-H Volunteer Banquet held at the Dutch Village Inn in Columbiana. The Rangers were proud to have all nine club advisors in attendance. Advisors were recognized for their years of service in 4-H: Steve Adams for two years, Janet Majirsky for four years, Robin Adams for five years, Diane and Jim Pitcairn for eight years, Karen and Bob Day for 21 years, Kathleen Moser for 40 years and Jan Moser for forty-two years. Ranger members Megan Day, 2009 4-H Queen, and Blake Algarin, 4-H State Ambassador, assisted with the banquet festivities. At the November meeting President Amanda Majirsky recognized the following 4-H members who completed their final year in the 4-H Program: Megan Day and Amelia Shrader completed 14 years, Kailyn Mowery had 13 years and Jacob Timmins finished 11 years. Abigail Schors, 9, was presented the Ranger Club's 4-H Spirit award for 2009 by President Majirsky and Treasurer Cheyenne Rowbotham. She was recognized for embodying the head, heart, hands and health of 4-H in all her 4-H activities. Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club invites all youth 8 years of age (and in the third grade) through 18 to come to the Jan. 14 meeting to discover what the 4-H experience can do for you. Salem JH announces 'Featured Students'
SALEM-Sean Kirkland, Salem Junior High School principal, announced "Featured Students" for the month of September/October: Alexis Adams, Brandon Aukerman, Alexia Benavides, Eric Collins, Madalyn Cope, Karleen, Mariah Eshelman, Mark Fredrickson, Macy Goodman, Carson Herron, Kyle Jennings, Troy Kuhns, Erica Kyser, Nick Larson, Jasmine McCullough, Cody Pfouts, Carter Rose, Michael Schneider, Madison Schwartz, Austin Scott, Emily VanHorn, Krista Yorty, and Shyanne Zitkovic. Their picture and biography was displayed at the school and later at McDonald's in Salem.
"Good Citizens of the Month" identifies and recognizes students for being nice, pleasant, and courteous individuals. The program is not academic based program as every student is eligible for the recognition.
Once a month students are nominated at random by their teachers. Selected students are invited to a lunch with the principal and staff. Those selected for October were: Kaleb Arkwright, Listy Barnhart, Hobe Butcher, Kylie Chaffin, Alexis Cusick, Megan Daley, Ivy Koons, T. J. Leyman, Ryan Lutsch, Julia Martinelli, Rachel Menegos Noah Richards, Alisha Rickman, Joy Rouse, Luke Secrest, Jesse Slocum, and Anna Wyss.
In addition, the following junior high students were recent winners of the Ohio Department of Education's Bus Safety Poster Contest: Hannah Atkinson, Ashley Burns, Megan Lehwald, Gina Maniscalco, Kastephany Quinn, Megan Ryan, Anna Shivers, Alex Weikart, Cassie Wood, and Kailey Workman.
