Christmas program slated at The Links
COLUMBIANA-Community Christian Women will meet at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at "The Links" at Firestone Farms. Shirley Griffin of Salem will present a Christmas program titled, "The Davy Crockett Hat." The meeting will begin with a luncheon for $6. Reservations should made with your church representative before Dec. 10. Couple recognized at TOPS meeting
SALEM-TOPS Chapter 1380 met Nov. 23 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Weekly awards were presented to Margaret Phillips, KOPS; Eleanor May, TOPS; and Cindy Eastman, honorable mention. Members were reminded of the double weight fines being enforced at the Nov. 30 meeting. Lloyd and Cora Jean Briggs were recognized for celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. East read for therapy and Shirley Bullis read for the circle of light.
Hicks and Hayseeds announce officers
HANOVERTON-The Hicks and Hayseeds 4-H Club has announced its new officers this year. They are, President Kyle Miller, Vice President Gage Chestnut, Secretary Zarah Strong, Treasurer Brook Riffee, News Reporter Tyler Miller, Health and Safety Leader Dallas Strong, and Recreation Leaders Nathan Miller and Isaiah Chestnut. This year starts quickly with the club making candy snowmen and with the devoted volunteers helping at the Hanoverton Christmas food giveaway. The next meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 5.
WHS '59 to host Christmas party

R-Weigh records loss of 23 pounds
SALEM-The R-Weigh weight reducing groups met Monday at l and 5 p.m. at the Faith Chapel. A loss of 23 pounds was recorded for the week. Good losers of the week were Jesse Rea, Barb Smith, Beverly Armitage and Birdie Reinhart. Sue Carver and Vi Woodall were the goalies of the week. The can-do monetary award went to Carver and Linda Lude. Rea reached her three-fourth way to goal weight and received a monetary award. The Tammy Turkeys won the monetary stuffing from the Henny Pennys in the Turkey Contest at the afternoon meeting. The Gabbier Gobblers won the monetary stuffing from the Gobblers, Gabby Gobblers and the Turkey Strutters at the evening meeting. The afternoon meeting will have a white elephant auction on Dec. 7 with members bringing items to be bought using play money. Each member receives a play dollar for each pound they lost in 2009 to buy the items. The evening group will have their Christmas party at 6:15 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Salem Community Center. Weigh-ins are scheduled from 5:15 to 6 p.m.
