Damascus musical
DAMASCUS-The children and youth of the Damascus United Methodist Church will present the musical, "The Christmas County Spelling Bee," at 10:10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 13. The musical is filled with many songs and soloists as they invite the community to come to the Town Hall where all of the participants are learning to spell the many names of Jesus. The winner will be featured in the town's annual Christmas pageant as either Mary or Joseph. The evening program will include a presentation of new Christmas toys to a local charity and a cookie and punch reception. The church is located at 300 Valley Road.
Winona cookie walk
WINONA-The Hazel Circle of the Winona United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Cookie Walk and Craft Sale from 9 a.m. to noon today at the church, 32114 Winona Road. A variety of homemade cookies will be sold at $3 per dozen.
Advent musical
COLUMBIANA-The community is invited to an Advent musical event at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at Christ the King Church, 202 E. Park Ave. Shane Wellman, minister of music and media at the church, will host several of his piano students who will perform religious works for the audience. The program will also include several vocal performances. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served following the performances. For information call 330-482-5022.
March for Life
ALLIANCE- The 37th annual March for Life will be held in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 22, 2010, and the Alliance First Friends Church is sponsoring a chartered bus to the event. The initial pick-up point will be at the Alliance First Friends Church at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 2. The bus will then travel to Damascus to pick up more riders at 11:55 p.m. The expected return time will be 2 a.m. Jan. 23. Additional pick-up points may be added in Waynesburg and Columbiana, if there is enough interest from those areas.
Reservations include the bus trip, a DC metro ticket, and supper. Adult reservations are $60; teen (12-20) and senior citizen (over 60) reservations are $55; child (11 and under) reservations are $40. No bus seats will be reserved without full payment. Candlelight tour
COLUMBIANA-The Jerusalem Lutheran Church at 415 S. Main St., will be participating in the Columbiana Churches Candlelight tour from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11. The church will be open during this time for visitors to view the Christmas decorations.
Cookie walk set
FRANKLIN SQUARE-The Franklin Square United Methodist Church's annual cookie walk will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at the church, 37615 Olde State Route 558. Cookies will be sold by the pound, and homemade soup will be sold by the quart.
