William L. Lewton Jr.
LISBON-William L. "Bill" Lewton Jr., 87, of West High Street, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at the Vista Center following a recent illness.
Mr. Lewton was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Winona, the son of William L. and Lillie (Graham) Lewton, and had lived his entire life in the area.
A 1939 graduate of Salem High School, he owned and operated Lewton's Garage from 1947 until he retired in 1986.
Mr. Lewton was a member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Steubenville; member of the Perry F&AM Lodge 185; the Royal Arch Masons; was a charter member of the Tri-County 4 Wheelers; member of the Tri-State Antique Car Club; the Vintage Motor Car Club of America, Canton, Ohio; the Steam Car Club, and a member of the Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy.
His wife, Eleanor M. (Sobotka) Lewton, whom he married Aug. 24, 1947, preceded him in death, May 20, 2007.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol A. (John) Deichler of Lisbon; a son, David L. (Martha) Lewton of Lisbon; grandchildren, Jason Lewton of Phoenix, Ariz., Jeremy (Jodi) Lewton of Olive Branch, Miss., Zachery Lewton of Lisbon, Meredith Deichler of Chesapeake Beach, Md., and Megan Deichler of Steubenville, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Noah Lewton, both of Olive Branch, Miss.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Pamela Gable officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Salineville American Legion.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m.
The family will also receive guests one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
