Sissy’s re-opens in Leetonia

LEETONIA- In this tough economy when so many small businesses are closing, a familiar Columbia Street establishment has re-opened- with a new menu item.

Sissy's re-opened in November, adding a pizzeria to its drive through services.

The business, owned and operated by Sandy Solomon, originally opened in January 2008 when Solomon purchased the former Linam's Quick Stop.

Due to other work obligations, though, Solomon had little time to manage the business, so she closed it for about three months and re-opened it with an emphasis on the pizza shop.

Having worked in the food service industry her whole life- in addition to her past jobs as a waitress and an airline stewardess, she grew up in her mother's pizza shop, Jack's Pizza, in Hanoverton- Solomon said she was looking for an opportunity to work for herself.

"I wanted something to do that I could do myself," she said of opening the business. "I've been in the restaurant business my whole life and I couldn't pass up this opportunity."

Solomon not only owns the business with her brother, Jack, but she also makes all the pizza herself, using fresh toppings and home-made dough.

The pizza is available by the slice or whole, and local deliveries in the evenings will be available, as well.

In addition to the pizza, all the products originally offered will still be available, including deli meats and cheeses by the pound, baked chicken wings and fresh subs. Typical convenience items like beer, wine, soda, cigarettes, lottery tickets and snacks can also be purchased.

And Sissy's is in the process of applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which will make it possible for patrons to use food stamps for qualifying items, Solomon noted.

Sissy's, located at 433 Columbia St., is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The drive through is currently open, as well. The phone number is 330-427-6700.
