Cookie Walk set
WINONA-The Hazel Circle of the Winona United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Cookie Walk and Craft Sale from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 5 at the church, 32114 Winona Road. A variety of homemade cookies will be sold at $3 per dozen.
Indoor Flea Market
COLUMBIANA-The First Presbyterian Church at 28 E. Park Ave., will hold an "Indoor Flea Market" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Alpha Omega Youth Group will provide hot soup and sandwiches. The Quilting Group is giving its latest project to the event for a quilt raffle, and there will be a bake sale.
One service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Communion will be served. Afterward, the board of deacons will provide lunch. At 2 p.m. the sanctuary will be decorated for Christmas with the "Hanging of the Greens."
Thanksgiving Service
NORTH LIMA-The North Lima Mennonite Church will host the area's Community Thanksgiving Service at 6 p.m. Sunday. The service will incorporate both contemporary and traditional songs, scripture, multi-media presentation, testimonials, special music by the Good News Blenders and a message by Pastor Russ Witkowski from Cornerstone Assembly. An offering will be taken for the local food pantry.
A breakfast buffet will be available at the church from 7 to 10 a.m. Nov. 28. Donations will be accepted for the all-you-can-eat meal. For information call 330-549-2333.
Mt. Union concert
ALLIANCE-Inspirational Voices of Praise, Mount Union College's gospel choir, will present its annual Advent Concert at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Dewald Chapel located on the Mount Union College Campus. This concert is free and open to the public.
This year's theme is "Hope Still Lives!" The scheduled repertoire will reflect this message through the southern gospel genre and contemporary gospel from the African American tradition. Liturgical dance, interpretive American sign language, trumpet and saxophone solos will also be featured. Those attending are asked to bring a canned/non-perishable food item for local food pantries. Whiteman concert
SALEM-The Phillips Christian Church will host the "Marvin Whiteman in Concert" at 1 p.m. Sunday. Whiteman is from Wellsburg, W.Va., and has shared his music ministry in Christian churches and camps throughout the Ohio Valley. The concert is open to the public and admission is free. Christmas party
NEW WATERFORD Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 Route 46, is planning a Christmas party Dec. 7 for area families who are or in the past have been involved in foster parenting programs in Columbiana and Mahoning counties.
The goal of the free event, which starts at 5:30 p.m., is to show appreciation for area foster families. The evening will include dinner, entertainment, games and gifts for the children. Tim Hupp, a deacon at the church, is overseeing the event. He and his wife, Sherry, have been foster parents for six years. "As a foster parent myself, I know how difficult it is to get a night out, so we wish to honor them with a free, fun and safe night out," Hupp said. Jail ministry
COLUMBIANA Cheryle Herr of Lisbon will speak at the next Reaching out Woman to Woman brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at Das Dutch Village Inn. Cost is $15. Herr and her husband, Don, have been in ministry in the Columbiana County Jail and federal prison in Elkton. She also works full time at the Family Recovery Center in Lisbon and is a member of Fellowship of the Beloved in Hanoverton. She authored the book "My Father's Voice." Mini retreat
CANFIELD- Interested in preparing for the celebration of Christmas in a way that will allow you to anticipate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way rather than getting lost in all the commercial noise of the holiday? Make a mini-Advent/Christmastime Retreat in Daily Living on Dec. 6 and 13 and Jan. 3 and 10 at the Ursuline Center.
