Sebring steak fry

SEBRING-The Sebring Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6730 in Sebring is having its monthly steak fry from 5 to 8 p.m. today at 206 E. Ohio Ave. Dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad bar, bread and coffee. Cost is $14. The public is invited. Music follows.

Southern Local BOE

SALINEVILLE-Southern Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting in executive session to discuss personnel at 5 p.m. Monday in the board office.

Hospital book fair

SALEM-By giving a good book this holiday season, you can actually give hours of laughter, relaxation, inspiration and entertainment. With hundreds of titles to choose from at Salem Community Hospital's Auxiliary Book Fair, you're sure to find the perfect book for every person on your holiday shopping list. The popular two-day event will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the private dining room, adjacent to the cafeteria on the ground floor.

Hundreds of titles and genres will be available at discounted prices. Selections include best sellers, children's books, fiction, hobbies, special interest, self-help and motivational titles. Proceeds will benefit future hospital projects. For information call 330-332-7126.

West Branch BOE

BELOIT-The West Branch Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the high school conference room (work session followed by special meeting). Business will be conducted that would otherwise have been administered at the regular meeting that was canceled on Nov. 19.

One-Stop close for holiday

LISBON-The One-Stop Workforce Centers of Mahoning and Columbiana Counties and the Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association offices in Youngstown and Lisbon will be closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Nov. 27. All locations will return to a normal schedule on Monday, Nov. 30.

Angels collectable show

CANFIELD-Angels for Animals will be hosting its sixth annual Antiques and Collectibles Show. Admission is $5 for the Dec. 4 preview from 6 to 9 p.m.; with free admission on Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 6.

A large variety of collectibles, antiques and jewelry will be available. Angels will also hold a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auctions and silent auctions. All proceeds benefit the animal shelter and its low-cost spay and neuter programs. To donate items for the sale or for information call 330-540-6892. Angels for Animals is located at 4750 Route 165 in Canfield.

Collecting gum for troops

HANOVERTON-The Interact Club of United Local is sponsoring a contest among the classes to collect gum to send to local military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan for Christmas. The goal is to collect at least one pack for every student in grades kindergarten to 12 at United. Students can turn in packs of gum to their first period teachers between now and Dec. 16. They may also donate other items or make a contribution to help cover shipping costs. Names and addresses are needed of anyone from the area serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. The information may be forwarded to the high school at 330-223-7102 or emailed to Denise.Ward@united.k12.oh.us.

Bowling benefit

LISBON - A bowling benefit for Bette Allen of Lisbon will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at TriState Lanes Calcutta. Bring a canned good for her food pantry. For information, call Gretchen Conaway at 330-532-5737 or 330-831-2980. Donations accepted.
