Lisbon student charged with striking principal at McKinley
LISBON - An 8-year-old student at McKinley Elementary School in Lisbon has been charged in Columbiana County Juvenile Court for allegedly striking his school principal Helen Otto on the arm on Oct. 26.
Lisbon Police filed the assault charge, which would be a fifth-degree felony if committed by an adult, on Nov. 6.
County assistant Prosecutor Denise Weingart said the child had been having issues with going to school and began hitting at the principal and hit her on the forearm. Normally, an assault charge like that would be a misdemeanor, but because the victim was an administrator and the incident occurred on school property, the charge is elevated to felony status, which is a more serious charge.
No date has been set for the child's initial appearance in court.
Charges of domestic violence have been filed against two other juveniles, with both charges misdemeanors if committed by adults. East Palestine Police filed a complaint against a 13-year-old boy for striking his sister on Oct. 31. Liverpool Township Police filed a complaint against a 16-year-old boy who made threats against his mother on Nov. 11.
