Bell operators

SALEM-Former AT&T-Ohio Bell Telephone Operators will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Veterans Day

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP- The Goshen Center Ruritans will host their 2nd annual Veterans Day Memorial at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Township Administration Building gymnasium. The program will feature World War II veterans Dick Burton and Eugene (Ike) Spack; Vietnam War veteran Larry Miller; and Peg Hawkins, the mother of a soldier who survived battle, but killed in the Pentagon terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001. Additional speakers may be included.

Stop sign thief

The Ohio Highway Patrol is seeking information about the theft of a lighted stop sign from the intersection of state Route 558 and Leetonia Road in Salem Township. The stop sign surrounded by solar-powered blinking LED lights was attached to a telephone pole. The lighted stop sign, which costs about $3,500, had been in place less than a month when someone used a chainsaw to cut down the pole at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 1 and steal the sign. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the highway patrol at 330-424-7783.

ODOT sets Washingtonville hearing

ODOT and Washingtonville officals are proposing improvements to the intersection of East Street and Washingtonville Road with state Route 14. The organizations will host a public meeting from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Washingtonville VFW to discuss the various alternatives considered and present the preferred alternative. The meeting will be an open forum with no formal presentations made. Community members will be able to view exhibits of different alternatives, discuss the project with ODOT and village representatives, as well as provide feedback on the proposed improvements. Comment forms will be available to complete at the meeting or to be mailed at a later time to ODOT District 11, ATTN: Thomas E. Stratton, 2201 Reiser Ave. SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. In order to proceed with the project in a timely manner, all comments must be submitted by Dec. 21.
