Cushman, Null, earn Salem BOE seats
By LARRY SHIELDS, Staff WriterIn the city school district board of education election, Jeff Cushman and Andrew Null won the two seats that four candidates contested on Tuesday.
According to complete but unofficial results from the Columbiana County Board of Elections, Cushman received 2,663 votes (36.52 percent) and Null collected 2,203 votes (30.21 percent) while Teri Pasco picked up 1,589 votes (21.79 percent and James Wittenauer received 837 votes (11.48 percent).
All four candidates were political newcomers.
Incumbent board members Dr. Joseph Rottenborn and Cathy Hergenrother chose not to run for re-election, opening up the two seats.
Board seats are for four-years and members are paid $125 per meeting, the maximum under state law, and for a maximum of 14 meetings per year.
Members may take part in State Employee Retirement System (SERS) and the district's insurance plan but have to pay 100 percent of the premium.
The new terms begin on Jan.1, 2010.
