SALEM

Domestic

Police responded to the 100 block of W. 3rd St. at 10:31 a.m. Sunday police responded to a domestic in progress and found it was an argument between a male and female over an infant. The woman reported the father came home and was unloading groceries while the baby was locked in the car for 20 minutes. Police then located the father who was advised to return to the home with the baby and he reluctantly turned over custody to the mother. Because they are not married there are no visitation rights currently through the court. The procedure to obtain custodial rights was explained to him and the mother left with the child and relatives. The mother was given information on how to obtain a protection order through the courts. Both were slightly disorderly but ceased after being told to do so.

Intoxicated person

Police responded to the 800 block of E. 3rd St. at 10:50 p.m. Sunday where the complainant was in an apartment when he heard a man yell at people outside bouncing a basketball off his house while he was sleeping. Everyone was advised to cease and go inside for the evening.

Stolen vehicle

Police responded to a parking lot 100 block of N. Lincoln Ave. at 6:57 p.m. Sunday after the complainant advised her parents Jeep that was stolen in Washingtonville earlier in the day was located there. Washingtonville police responded to the scene.

Leaves in road

Police responded to Dodge Dr. and W. Pershing St. at 4:35 p.m. Sunday regarding a report of leaves all over the roadway from the intersection to Sharp Ave. There was no traffic hazard.

Police responded to Newgarden Ave. and Liberty St. at 4:43 p.m. Sunday regarding a report of leaf bags in from a residence in the 1000 block of Newgarden Ave. creating a hazard for vehicles to pull from Liberty St. Police spoke with several people at the residence and they advised they would move the bags.

Threats

Police responded to the 400 block of S. Lundy Ave. at 2:49 p.m. Sunday where the complainant advised she is being threatened by a known female through a third party.

ID theft calls

Police responded to the 500 block of Highland Ave. at 12:52 p.m. Sunday where the complainant advised of receiving a call from a financial institution regarding them opening a checking account. Apparently someone tried in the complainant's name and the complainant was referred to the TransUnion credit reporting agency.

Police responded to the 1600 block of Quaker Lane at 10:49 a.m. Monday where the complainant advised of being contacted by ING informing them an unknown person attempted to open a checking account in their name with personal information. ING put the complainant in touch with a company with the name of TransUnion which sent a packet for the complainant to fill out and return.

Domestic

Police responded to the 400 block of Ash St. at 1:14 p.m. Sunday for a domestic and there was no sign of physical violence between a male and female and the male left for the evening.

Speak with officer

Police received a complaint from a resident in the 1500 block of Carole Dr. at 2:12 p.m. Sunday regarding a possible sexual offense in the city.

Intoxicated person

Police responded to the 600 block of E. 6th St. at 2:49 p.m. Monday for a report of two males running through the building knocking on doors. The landlord and two tenants said there was no problem.

Assist Washingtonville P.D.

Police responded to the 200 block of Rose Ave. at 2:20 p.m. Monday to assist Washingtonville police in locating a man wanted for questioning.

Curfew

Police on patrol in the W. Wilson St. and Sharp Ave. area at 1:24 a.m. Monday observed a bicyclist riding without lights and charged the 17-year-old male with a curfew violation and he was released to his mother.

Thefts

Police responded to the Walmart Store on E. State St. at 7:37 p.m. Sunday where loss prevention detained an employee, Deborah A. Shellengerber, 12205 Goshen Road, #85, for theft. She admitted to the theft of $800 over a period of six months and was charged with theft and transported to the county jail.

Police responded to the 2400 block of E. State St. at 8:57 p.m. Sunday where the store advised that On Oct. 23 a person had rented a carpet scrubber and not returned it. Information was gathered and police will attempt to locate the person.

Suspicious person

Police responded to the Salvation Army in the 1200 block of N. Ellsworth Ave. at 9:32 a.m. Sunday where an employee had located a child on the street who claimed a man was following them. The father was located at home and responded to pick up the child. It was learned the child knew the man and there was no problem or stalking situation.

Assault

Police responded to the 1000 block of Liberty St. at 11:47 p.m. Sunday to speak with the victim who said he was at a store in the 2800 block of E. State St. and was met by three males in his vehicle telling him to take them to Columbiana or they would beat him. He drove them to Columbiana and behind a plaza where they beat him up. The only thing missing was his cell phone and the victim does not recall any suspect information. The victim had a visible injury to his face and he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. An investigation is pending and the Columbiana P.D. was advised of the incident and would check the plaza where the reported assault took place for any evidence.

PERRY TOWNSHIP

Arrest

Police responded to the S. Ellsworth Ave. at 12:46 a.m. Sunday after Salem police requested to check for a person laying on the railroad tracks at the crossing. Upon arrival, police observed two males on ATVs and attempted to stop them but they continued to flee. Perry Township police caught Dennis J. Hecker, 141 Townsend Road, Girard, and charged him with failure to comply and he was transported to the county jail.

Assist Salem P.D.

Police were requested to assist Salem police at 1:47 a.m. Sunday with a fight at an establishment in the 400 block of S. Broadway Ave. Upon arrival, police secured the area and spoke with the victims and witnesses involved. One person was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the fight.

Domestic

Police responded to the 500 block of Benton Road at 12:07 a.m. Sunday for a domestic dispute and after speaking with all the parties involved the male half in the dispute agreed to stay at his brothers for the night.

Welfare check

Police responded to the 1300 block of W. State St. at 12:53 a.m. Saturday where the complainant wanted officers to check on the welfare of her 7-year-old child because the father was consuming alcoholic beverages. Police found the father intoxicated but a 14-year-old sister was at the residence and the 7-year-old was asleep. A copy of the report is to be sent to children's services.

Traffic stop

Police made a traffic stop for one headlight on E. Pidgeon Road at 3:14 a.m. Sunday and charged Richard A. Wright, 99 Queens Dr., Warren, with possession marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the county jail.

COLUMBIANA

Warrant arrest

Mary Kiehl, 25, of 142 N. Main St., Columbiana, was arrested at 9:56 a.m. Thursday on an active warrant out of the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.

Breaking and entering

A caller reported at 8:16 p.m. Thursday that someone had broken into storage units on Industrial Drive.

Theft

A caller reported at 3:46 p.m. Friday that someone removed a television from Parkside Health Care Center.

An employee from Dollar General reported at 2:45 p.m. Sunday that someone stole some plastic tote boxes that had been sitting along the front of the store.
