SALEM

Theft

A man from the 600 block of North Ellsworth Avenue reported at 10:48 a.m. Saturday that someone stole his son's blue Mongoose bicycle within the past week.

Assault

A male juvenile flagged down an officer on patrol in the 300 block of East State Street at 5:50 p.m. Saturday to report he was assaulted by an unknown person behind an East State Street because he would not fight another male juvenile. A small cut on the boy's lip was visible. The officer searched the area, but was unable to find the suspect.

Open container

John R. McDole, 26, of Boardman, and Jerry L. Morrison, 30, of Canfield, were cited at 9:12 p.m. Saturday for open container in a motor vehicle after officers responded to the parking lot of a business in the 700 block of West State Street for a report of several people drinking alcohol while sitting in a car parked in the lot.

Criminal trespassing

Dennis J. Hecker, 29, of Girard, was arrested at 12:44 a.m. Sunday for criminal trespassing and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after officers responded to the railroad crossing at South Ellsworth Avenue for a report of a person lying on the tracks. Upon arrival, officers from Salem and Perry Township found Hecker riding a four-wheeler on the tracks. According to the police report, he fled east on the tracks before being detained by Perry Township officers.

Assault

An officer responded to a location in the 400 block of South Broadway Avenue at 1:47 a.m. Sunday for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, the officer observed a female lying on the ground and surrounded by a group of people. The Salem Fire Department First Responders and KLG Ambulance responded to treat two assault victims and transported them to the Salem Community Hospital Emergency Room. Perry Township Police Department assisted.
