Columbiana 'boil alert' lifted
COLUMBIANA-The "boil alert" that was issued in the city of Columbiana for residents and businesses north of Seventh Street has been lifted.
Blood drive set today
COLUMBIANA-An American Red Cross blood drive is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Columbiana High School, 720 Columbiana-Waterford Road.
Lisbon 1952 breakfast
LISBON-The David Anderson High School Class of 1952 will meet for breakfast at 11 a.m. Friday at Taste of Country. Gordon Moss and his sons will be present.
Leetonia schools rally
LEETONIA-The Leetonia High School Students Council, and the organization for students supporting Leetonia Schools, will host a "Support Our Schools" rally on Friday. The "Rally at the Bell Tower" begins at 6:30 p.m. prior to the Leetonia vs Lowellville football game which follows at 7 p.m. Concessions will be available. The Leetonia High School Band will perform beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Heartland benefit dinner
COLUMBIANA-A benefit dinner will be held before the Power Team Meet from 3:30 to 6:45 p.m. Friday at Heartland Christian School's Dining Commons. It is an "eat-in or takeout" meal by donation. The menu offers chile con carne, salad, rolls, hot and cold beverages and dessert. Several young women, along with their chaperones, will travel to England and France in July, 2010, for the Student Leadership University 301 Conference.
Fish fry-Red Cross benefit
ALLIANCE-A fish fry-Red Cross benefit will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 1845 S. Sawburg Road. Cost is $7.50 for adults, $5 for children under 12, and free for 5 and under. The menu offers baked or fried pollock, green beans, scalloped potatoes, cole slaw, cake and beverage. Columbiana Historical Society
COLUMBIANA-The annual meeting of The Historical Society of Columbiana and Fairfield Township will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the First Presbyterian Church. The program, "Unlocking the Secrets of the Cemetery" will be given by Kimberly Kenny. Kenny graduated summa cum laude from Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., with a major in American history and minor in creative writing. She earned a master's of arts in history museum studies at the Cooperstown Graduate Program. She is the curator at the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum in Canton and the author of three books. The Association of Gravestone Studies recently awarded her the Oakley Certificate of Merit for her interpretive projects at West Lawn Cemetery. The public is welcome.
Bank One retiree lunch
SALEM- Bank One retirees and past employees will meet for lunch at noon Oct. 20 at Ezio's Pizza and Italian Foods on South Broadway Avenue.
Salem seniors meeting
SALEM-The Salem Senior Citizens' board meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at the Memorial Building.
Storm water input sought
COLUMBIANA- Columbiana City Council is asking residents for their input concerning the creation of a Storm Water Utility. The city has experienced major flooding three times during this decade and is working on a plan to fix the storm sewer problems that have existed for the past 50 years. To fix the problems the city is anticipating a large infrastructure project that would entail a major expense. To pay for these infrastructure projects, the city is considering a storm water user fee. The fee would be collected and used to pay for debt service and to make other storm water related improvements. Residents may attend the next city council meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and give their input.
Beaver Township Crime Watch
NORTH LIMA-Beaver Township Police Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road. Fire Chief Russ Osborne will discuss Fire Prevention Month and ways to keep safe.Trick or treat in Beaver Township is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
Kids Halloween Party
BEAVER TOWNSHIP-The Beaver Township Park Board will sponsor a Kids Halloween Party for township youth ages 12 and younger at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Woodworth Park on Luther Avenue. The event will include treats, a pumpkin hunt and refreshments. There is no cost to attend. Participants should bring flashlights. For more information call the park board at 330-549-9552.
Booster club members
LISBON-The Beaver Local Marine Corps J.R.O.T.C. Booster Club is currently accepting new members. Annual dues are $3 per person and $5 for a couple. AMVETS?Halloween dance
SALEM-The public is invited to dress up in their favorite costume for a Halloween dance to be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 31 at AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave. Music will be provided by Damaged Goods. There will be a cash bar.
Scrapbooking crop
COLUMBIANA-An all-day scrapbooking crop will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 7 at Heck's Restaurant. There will be prizes and "make and take" projects to participate in. Lunch and dinner will be catered by Heck's Restaurant. Cost is $35. Reservations may be made by calling Leah Nicoara, a Close to My Heart independent consultant, at 330-337-0020. Register by Oct. 20 to receive a free stamp pad.
Canfield fruit sale
CANFIELD- The Canfield Band Parents' annual fruit sale will continue through Tuesday, Nov. 10. Profits go to support the Canfield School bands. Fresh-picked fruit available includes Florida oranges, grapefruit, Washington State apples, Anjou pears, tangerines, clementines and pineapples. Many of the items can be shipped out of town to family, friends, customers or clients. They make great healthy gift ideas for the holidays. The band will also be selling an assortment of fruit cakes.
