Taste of Valley
YOUNGSTOWN-The 18th annual Taste of the Valley to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Over 25 of the Valley's finest dining establishments will donate their time and talents to present a vast array of appetizers, entrees and desserts to over 400 expected guests. This year, Taste of the Valley's sponsors include over 45 businesses, civic groups, religious organizations and individuals. A live and Chinese auction presented by Richard Basinger and music by Stan Miller and Kelly Connors will be a part of the evening's festivities. Auction items include vacations, airline tickets, original artwork and jewelry. All funds raised at the event will be used to feed hungry people in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Waterford council
NEW WATERFORD-New Waterford Village Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the village community building.
Columbiana BOE
COLUMBIANA-The Columbiana Board of Education will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Columbiana High School Media Center.
East Palestine 1954
EAST PALESTINE-The East Palestine High School Class of 1954 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 at Das Dutch Haus in Columbiana.
Lisbon Junior Class
LISBON-Lisbon Junior Class parents will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Media Center at the high school.
Recruiting event
BOARDMAN-The Mahoning County One-Stop will hold a recruiting event on Thursday, Oct. 15, for Things Remembered, the personalized gift retailer, that is hiring 300 employees for its North Jackson distribution center. The company is seeking full- and part-time monogrammers/engravers, pickers, shippers and packers and support services workers including quality controllers and gift wrappers for a variety of shifts during the holiday season.
Employees of Things Remembered enjoy merchandise discounts, Employee Appreciation Days, an opportunity for overtime and prizes for attendance. All positions pay $7.30 an hour and require computer skills as well as a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates will be given a spelling and proofreading assessment and must pass a drug screen. While the jobs will end in mid-December there is an opportunity for permanent full-time employment and first chance at recall during the next busy season in April to mid-June.
The recruiting event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Mahoning County One-Stop in the Boardman Plaza on Route 224, Boardman. Candidates should bring an up-to-date resume and be prepared to interview. Individuals also can apply in person at Things Remembered, 500 S. Salem 1941
SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1941 will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 at Annabell's Restaurant.
Soil banquet
HANOVERTON-The Columbiana Soil and Water Conservation District's annual banquet and election will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at United Local High School. A buffet-style Swiss steak dinner will be served. Tickets are $11 by contacting the Columbiana SWCD office in Salem at 330-332-8732. The deadline for ordering tickets is Oct. 13. No tickets will be sold at the door. One supervisor will be elected at the annual meeting. Voting for the candidates will be held from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Candidates are Tom Butch and Randall Kiko. The Cooperator of the Year Award and other awards will be presented.

Polling site change
WELLSVILLE-The polling location for Madison Township Glasgow residents has been changed from Yellow Creek Grange Hall to a church directly across the street: Yellow Creek Presbyterian. The postcard that went out notifying registered voters of the change listed the church's address as 17365 Route 45, Lisbon, but should have been 17365 Route 45, Wellsville.
Food bank grant
YOUNGSTOWN-The Giant Eagle Foundation has awarded a grant in the amount of $5,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The funds will be used to support the operation of Food Bank.
"Giant Eagle is a wonderful friend to our Food Bank," said Mike Iberis, executive director of the food bank "and to Feeding America Food Banks across our state and beyond. They are generous with food and funds."
Second Harvest Food Bank provides food to 152 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. They include church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after school programs.
