Knox Safety Day
KNOX TOWNSHIP-North Georgetown and Homeworth Fire Departments will host the annual Knox Township Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Knox School. There will be blood pressure checks and vision checks, along with other displays and items of interest, including Life Flight and Stat Medvac choppers, safety trailer, spray house, child IDs, and the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.
Walk canceled
EAST PALESTINE-Due to extenuating circumstances, the Community Care Walk scheduled for Sunday in East Palestine is canceled. Donations collected can be given to the Ministerial Association by contacting John Hersh at 330-426-2147. Those funds will be distributed to Social Concerns and the Salvation Army Unit located in East Palestine.
Crestview meeting
COLUMBIANA-Crestview After Prom Parents will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the high school cafeteria. Enter through the front doors.
Housing board
SALEM - The Board of Housing Appeals will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first floor conference room at Salem City Hall.
Social Security
SALEM- A Social Security representative will offer assistance with applications related to the Social Security Administration from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Building.
Salem Storytime
SALEM-Storytime begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Quaker Room at the Salem Public Library. All families are invited and no registration is required.

Salem speaker
SALEM-Popular speaker Kim Kenney will return for a program at the Salem Historical Society on Tuesday following the 7 p.m. business meeting. Her topic will be of special interest for October as she presents "Funerals of the Rich and Famous."
Through a PowerPoint presentation, she will explore the life and death of the famous and infamous, including Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Rudolph Valentino, Judy Garland, Bob Hope, Jim Henson, Grace Kelly, and many more.
Society President David Shivers will lead a short business meeting which is open to the public. The museum is located at 208 S. Broadway Ave. with entrance off East Alley. Refreshments will be provided by Adam Cook and Walter Ritchie. For information call 330-337-8514.
Texas Hold 'Em
NEW WATERFORD-The New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department will host a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament at 5 p.m. Oct. 17 at the New Waterford Eagles Club. Doors open at 3 p.m. for cash games before and after the tournament. Presale tickets are $40; and $50 at the door. Tickets available from any firefighter and at Fire Force in Columbiana. Players are allowed one re-buy by the end of halftime; $30 equals $3,000 chips and $50 equals $5,000 chips. There will be a 50/50 drawing and food provided to participants. Halloween at park
BOARDMAN-Mill Creek MetroParks will present Halloween at the Judge Leo P. Morley Pavilion from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17. This annual evening of safe and gentle Halloween excitement is sponsored by 21 WFMJ and the CW.
New York trip
HANOVERTON-The United High School Choir Boosters are sponsoring a trip to New York City on Nov. 13-15. The bus will leave from the high school parking lot at 4 p.m. Friday and return early Sunday morning. Included in the trip are: round trip deluxe motor coach transportation, overnight hotel accommodations, and an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast Saturday. One-Stop closed
LISBON-The One-Stop Workforce Centers of Mahoning and Columbiana Counties will be closed on Monday for Columbus Day.
The Mahoning County One-Stop is located in the Boardman Plaza at 141 Boardman-Canfield Road, Youngstown. The Columbiana County One-Stop is at 7860 Lincole Place, Lisbon. The offices of Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association, also at 7860 Lincole Place, Lisbon, and at 9 W. Front St., Youngstown, will be closed.
QuickBooks I class
SALEM-Kent State Salem Workforce Development is offering QuickBooks I at the Salem City Center downtown location, 230 N. Lincoln Ave. The prerequisites for this course are keyboarding and knowledge of basic Windows.
QuickBooks I Version 2009 is being offered on Tuesdays/Thursdays, Nov. 3, 5, 10, 12 and 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. This 15-hour class is designed for individuals who want to use QuickBooks as a business accounting system and covers EasyStep Interview to set up QuickBooks: adding accounts, customers, tracing invoices, purchases and payments, recording inventory and assets plus much more. Learn to create a company and use all the features that QuickBooks has to offer. Cost is $139, which includes the text.
