Salem

A W. Pershing St. man reported at 9:21 a.m. Friday that sometime within the past couple weeks someone had moved items around in his home. He did not believe anything was missing.

A S. Broadway man reported at 2:07 p.m. Friday a door was open behind 388 S. Broadway. Police found the door had been kicked open and the drywall damaged. The building is scheduled to be demolished in the near future.

A resident on Tanglewood Drive reported his vehicle was entered overnight and a GPS unit was stolen.

A vehicle parked in the 1100 block of East Third Street for an extended period of time was issued a 48-hour notice at 11:39 a.m. Friday.

A Cedar St. woman reported at 11:55 a.m. Friday she left for a couple days and when she returned her husband had changed the locks. She had also contacted her attorney.

A woman visiting at a Lexington Avenue address from out of state reported between Sept. 13 and Tuesday someone stole her $900 diamond tennis bracelet from the home. The matter is under investigation.

Police took possession of a 12-guage shotgun that was part of an estate from the attorney after it was found the gun barrel had been shortened and was illegal. The gun eventually will be destroyed.

Carole Beeson, 445 Prospect St., reported at 12:48 p.m. Friday that sometime since Monday someone took a cast iron cover from a manhole behind the business. The cover weighs over 100 pounds and is valued at about $200. She also reported the windshield on a pickup parked on company property was broken by a stone.

A New Middletown man reported sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Thursday someone entered his unlocked vehicle while he was installing cable for Network Connectors, Youngstown, and took his checkbook.

A recklessly driven vehicle was reported in the area of Southeast Boulevard and Edgewood Drive at 2:59 p.m. Thursday. Police contacted the boy and warned him about his driving.

Salem Fire Department engine No. 2 was westbound in the 2500 block of East State Street at 7:11 a.m. Friday when a deer ran straight into the driver's side of the vehicle, damaging the rear passenger door and a side panel of the fire truck.

Police assisted the Drug Task Force agents detaining a man wanted for questioning at an East Pershing Street address at 12:05 a.m. Friday. He was questioned and released.

Police found a few vehicles in the Maple Street and Washington Street area with dome lights on at 1:48 a.m. Friday. It was unknown if there were any items missing at that time.

Someone reported seeing a man trying to get into vehicles in the 2000 block of Oak Street at 4:32 a.m. Friday. Police found two men near the intersection of Oak Street and South Madison Avenue. One, Timothy Smith, 20, 2181 Southeast Blvd., was charged with underage consumption.

A theft was reported at 1750 E. State St., where a store employee told police someone they knew had taken a bottle of whiskey and left without paying. The store manager asked about having the person banned from the store.

A S. Union Ave. woman reported an assault at 6:12 p.m. Thursday. Police left statement forms for everyone involved to fill out and warned them to try to get along for the rest of the night.

Mark L'Italien reported several vehicle owners reported damage to their vehicles in the parking lot at 2020 E. State St. from the Salem City Water Tower being painted nearby. Police contacted the foreman of the painting crew, who said they have a way to take car of damage due to the mild over-spray that can happen.

A suspicious person was reported Thursday coming to the area of the bus stop at Jennings Avenue and West Fourth Street. A group of parents told police the person usually arrives about 8 a.m.

Joe Dickey, 180 W. South Range Road, a member of the Shriners, said they had been approached by a couple who wanted to do a fund-raiser in Salem and donate the profits to the Shriners. The organization had received three small donations early in the summer, but nothing since and he was concerned the couple may still be soliciting, but not using any profits in the way originally intended.

Perry Township

Adrienne Hepfner, Youngstown, was northbound on Cunningham Road when she tried to make a left turn into a driveway and pulled into the path of Rene Hilton, 32984 Coffee School Road, causing a collision. Hepfner was cited for failure to yield and everyone was checked for possible injuries.

Luann Nortrup, 1961 Cider Mill road, was cited for driving with a suspended license at 6:49 p.m. Friday following a traffic stop on Stewart Road at Depot Road.

Richard Stover, Allison Park, Pa., was stopped in traffic on state Route 45 at West State Street when he was struck from behind by a dump truck driven by Jerry Mazzei, 4428 Homeworth Road, Homeworth. Stover's vehicle then went forward and struck a vehicle in front of him. There was no damage to the third vehicle.

An unnamed driver reported he was southbound on North Egypt Road when he was run off the roadway in front of 2117 N. Egypt Road by a northbound vehicle. The driver was able to avoid striking a large rock in the yard and go back onto the roadway. He chased the other vehicle and obtained the registration, then dialed 911. Police found the other driver in Mahoning County. No citation was issued due to conflicting accounts of the incident.

Police received a complaint from the 1100 block of Prospect St. at 4;09 p.m. Tuesday regarding comments made toward a child that were sexual in nature and the complainant wanted police to be aware of it. Information was obtained regarding another situation that occurred with the complainant that was forwarded to Children's Services.

Police made a traffic stop on state Route 344 at Cunningham Road on a vehicle with a Florida registration that was expired. Ashley Painter or Hanoverton was operating the vehicle with an expired Florida driver's license and was charged with driving under suspension and an expired license.

Police responded to the 2300 block of N. Lincoln Ave. at 3 p.m. Wednesday where the complainant advised that after two counter top installers had been at the residence a small amount of cash was missing from a wallet. The complainant spoke with the owner of the business and police are still investigating.

Columbiana

Circle K, North Main Street, reported at 9:20 a.m. Thursday someone tried to pay with a credit card that showed it was lost or stolen. Because the person had been drinking, the clerk was afraid to take the card from him. They wanted police to try to identify the person, but police could not due to the poor film resolution.

A mother and son were reported fighting in the Burger King parking lot at 11:21 a.m. Thursday. Police located them and found there was no problem.

A solicitor's permit was issued to one person from First Energy at 11:51 a.m. Thursday. Two other people with her did not have photo identification cards with them, so they were not issued permits.

Someone reported two children smoking on the monkey bars at Firestone Park. Police spoke to the two children and released them to their parents.

Solicitors were reported in the area of South Main Street, Duquesne Street and Fairfield Avenue at 5 p.m. Thursday. Police found several of them and told them to go to the police station for permits.

A domestic dispute was reported on Kelly Park Road to sheriff's deputies at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, but it was found to have actually happened within Columbiana. Police charged Ronald Shaffer, 36, 129 Hawkins Lane with domestic violence.

The highway patrol reported someone called them about several wooden pallets lost on state Route 14 near The Links at Firestone Farms at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday. Police checked all the way to McCloskey Road, but did not find anything on the roadway.

A car fire was reported on Heck Road at 8:16 p.m. Wednesday.

A Union Street resident reported at 10:42 p.m. Saturday that someone drove by his residence and threw some kind of object at its exterior.

A Union Street man reported at 2:10 a.m. Sunday that someone broke out the back window of his vehicle.

A caller reported at 6:38 p.m. Sunday that several juveniles were climbing on the goal posts at the Firestone Park football field. Officers observed a male juvenile climbing on the post and advised him to stop.

A caller reported at 9:26 p.m. Sunday that someone in a white car drove past her vehicle parked on Union Street around 9 p.m. and threw something on the hood, causing damage.

A West Park Avenue man reported at 12:11 p.m. Monday that someone stole a five-gallon gas can from his garage.

East Palestine

An E. North Ave. woman reported at 8:03 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, a theft from 49 Anna St.

A Dyke Road woman reported at 12:58 p.m. Monday several unauthorized charges were made to her checking account.

Helen Dallies, 367 E. North Ave., reported at 5:04 p.m. Tuesday something was stolen from inside her home.

Someone reported at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday a man was in the area of East Clark Street and James Street yelling obscenities and punching a tree. Police spoke to the man, who was distraught over just breaking up with his girlfriend. He was calmed down and then he called to get a ride.

A fight was reported in progress at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday on S. Market St. Police spoke to everyone involved in the matter, which was about the child custody issue. No one wanted charges filed.

An E. North Ave. woman reported at 9:39 a.m. Wednesday she had been threatened by someone she knows. The matter is under investigation.

Lisbon

Jerry R. Haines, 26, Greentree Square, was charged with having an open container of alcohol in public in the parking lot of the Motorcycle Dream Shop at 10:50 p.m. Thursday.

A woman reported the side window of her car was broken by a rock while parked at the Eagles at 3:28 p.m. Thursday and she believes her ex-husband is responsible. She said he texted her and he agreed to pay for the damage.

An East Lincoln Avenue man reported Thursday the rear tires on his SUV were slashed.

A resident reported Tuesday some of the items he had for sale at his girlfriend's recent garage sale were missing but had never been sold. The man believes he knows who was responsible, so police went to the apartment on West Lincoln Way, where the resident denied stealing anything. The person also let police search the apartment, but nothing matching the description of the stolen items provided was found.

An East Chestnut Street man reported Tuesday someone egged his house over the weekend.

An East Chestnut Street woman reported Tuesday that her car was entered and went through the console and glove box, but nothing appeared to be missing. Her neighbor also reported his vehicle had been ransacked.

Norma Patterson, 74, of Lisbon, and her son, Richard L. Patterson, 55, of East Liverpool, were taken to the hospital following an accident that occurred at the intersection of state Route 154 and Bluff Street at 10:28 a.m. Thursday. The Patterson were in a Monte Carlo when Lindsey N. Miller, 23, of Lisbon, pulled in front of them in a Buick Regal, resulting in an accident. Miller was cited for making an improper turn at an intersection.

Tori L. Tollis, 11, of Salem, escaped serious injury after being struck on her bicycle while riding on West Lincoln Way at 5:52 p.m. Wednesday. Tollis was riding on the wrong side of the road when she was reportedly struck by a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Anthony D. Brletich, 51, of Salineville, who was pulling from a stop sign.

Rebecca May, 28, of Chester, W.Va., was charged Wednesday with stealing $3 to $4 from the Akron Children's Hospital donation jar at the Circle K convenience store on Sept. 16. A clerk obtained her vehicle license plate, and police were able to identify May from the store's security video. After denying the accusation, May was told by police about the security video showing her putting her hand in the jar. May said after the clerk confronted her she put a dollar in the jar.

A woman reported falling on the wet floor at the laundromat on East Lincoln Way at 2:19 p.m. Wednesday. She said she injured her wrist and her side in the fall. The owner of the laundromat was advised of the water issue.

A West Washington Street woman reported Wednesday several of her prescription medications were stolen while she was babysitting and stepped out to grab something to eat the the Steel Trolley Diner.

A woman reported Wednesday a man who lives on West Washington Street has been videotaping her while she picks up her daughter's 11-year-old friend to take them to softball practice.

Police responded to a domestic dispute on Maple Street at 10:52 p.m. Wednesday. The couple was arguing loudly and told by the officer to go inside and keep quiet or they would be charged.

Police responded to a domestic dispute on East Lincoln Way at 2:44 a.m. Thursday, where a woman reported being pushed by her boyfriend, but she declined to press charges. The woman was given a ride to the hospital by her sister because her knee was injured in the push.

Brian Davis of Brian's Barbershop reported being harassed by someone he knows. Davis said at 9:18 a.m. Thursday the man drove by his business and flipped him off.
