Day crowned queen at Canfield Fair
CANFIELD-Megan Day was crowned the 2009 4-H Queen at the Canfield Fair.
She is the daughter of Bob and Karen Day of Berlin Center and is a 14-year member of Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club. Ranger member Blake Algarin, son of Angel and Jodi Algarin of Berlin Center, a five year 4-H member, also served on the 4-H Royal Court.
Day was also named the 2009 Mahoning County Outstanding Female Youth from a court of 11 youth representatives.
Other Ranger members serving on the Outstanding Youth Court include Jenna Benson of Campbell, Amanda Majirsky and Hannah Shrader of Berlin Center.
Sara Cummings of New Springfield and Delorean Jones of Austintown served on the 2009 Sheep and Wool Ambassador Court.
Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club received the first place rosette and rotating banner for "The Best Promotion of 4-H" as well as the third place rosette in Division I for their educational booth display titled "Ohio 4-H, Green Since 1902". The Ranger Club also received a third place rosette for their community service projects.
A thank you was extended to Janet and Amanda Majirsky for growing the flowers and recreating the recycled flower box display that won a second place rosette.
Amanda Majirsky received a $350 scholarship from the Darrel Bacon Memorial Scholarship Fund during Youth Day ceremonies at the fair.
Katherine Pitcairn of Berlin Center raised the Grand Champion Turkey and Kailyn Mowery, also of Berlin Center, raised the Reserve Champion Turkey and the Reserve Champion Broiler Chicken. Robert Voland of North Jackson raised the Grand Champion Self-Determined Bird Project while Delorean Jones of Austintown raised the Reserve Champion Birds.
Shannon Marshburn of Columbiana was a standout in the open class baking at the Canfield Fair. She got "Best of Show" over all the junior division baking.
Ranger members, who served on the 2009 Mahoning County Junior Fair Board and helped to make the Canfield Junior Fair a huge success were Blake Algarin, Jessica Corll, Megan Day, Amanda Majirsky, and Hannah Shrader of Berlin Center, Jenna Benson of Campbell and Sara Cummings of New Springfield.
