of Elections will meet Friday

LISBON-The Columbiana County Board of Elections meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Driving school instructor will

register Leetonia students

LEETONIA-An instructor from Auto Club Driving School will visit Leetonia High School on Friday to register students for the class?Those interested are to bring all signed forms along with their deposit. Registration will be held in the cafeteria during lunch.

Tri-County Opry will feature

special guests on Sept. 19

EAST ROCHESTER-The Tri-County Opry begins at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Bayard Grange on U.S. Route 30. Special guests include Louisville natives Lauren Mascitti, N.E. Ohio's 2009 Colgate Country Showdown winner, and Rebecca Flesher, Jesse Galchick from Massillon, Francis Abel from Kensington, Marci Gragg and Jesse Huddleston from Paris, Donna Kandel from Minerva, and Heart of Country Cloggers. Barbecue ribs and chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, homemade desserts and beverages will be available at 6:30 p.m. and at intermission. Admission is $5 for ages 10 and over. Harvest Food Bank asking

for help to 'Feed a Lot'

YOUNGSTOWN-As September is National Hunger Action Month, the Second Harvest Food Bank is asking the Mahoning Valley community to join millions of Americans to continue to "Give a Little - Feed a Lot."

On Saturday, WFMJ Channel 21 is sponsoring a Food-a-Thon at the food bank at 2805 Salt Springs Road. Members of the community are asked to to stop in between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. with a bag, a box or a car load of food to help feed hungry friends and neighbors and meet 21 WFMJ on-air personalities.

Second Harvest Food Bank provides food to 150 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. These organizations include church pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, shelters for battered women and after school programs. Pastry will distribute produce

SALEM-The Presbyterian/Methodist Food Pantry at 244 S. Broadway Ave. will distribute produce from the Second Harvest Food Bank at 11 a.m. Friday prior to the food distribution at 1 p.m. Those attending are asked not to park in the south parking lot.

East Palestine sophomores

EAST PALESTINE-The East Palestine Sophomore Class of 2012 will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 26 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 40 S. Market St. Donations will be accepted.

Antique Tractor Club holding

spaghetti dinner and raffle

WARREN-The Antique Tractor Club of Trumbull County is holding a spaghetti dinner and raffle from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Ali Baba Grotto on Perkins-Jones Road off the Routes 5/82 bypass in Warren. The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, beverage and dessert. Cost is $7 per adult, $4 for under 12 and free for children 3and under. Proceeds will benefit the development of the club property.

Help Hotline Crisis Center

offering free training classes

YOUNGSTOWN-Help Hotline Crisis Center, Inc., the county's "one number" to call for information, referral, and crisis intervention, is offering free training classes for people interested in volunteering for the 24-hour hotline.

Classes will meet from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on five consecutive Mondays, beginning Sept. 21 through Oct. 26, and one Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment.

The crisis center has recently been awarded a grant from the Senator Maurice and Florence Lipscher Charitable Foundation in the amount of $2,000 for increased operating expenses in the phone room. Help Hotline received 12,390 calls for the month of July, and receives 16 calls a day related to suicide. Pumpkin Festival is Oct. 10-11

LISBON-The second annual Pumpkin Festival scheduled for Oct. 10 and 11 at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds will feature a Car Cruise-In from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 11. Antique tractors will be the feature on Saturday during the show hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Plaques and trophies will be awarded to the Most Popular and Best of Show in both categories. Craft vendors, music, wagon rides, a petting zoo, food, and much more are also part of this year's festival, sponsored by the fair board. A giant pumpkin, corn stalks, pumpkins and fall decorations will benefit the 4-H programs of Columbiana County. Salem Library planning a

jigsaw puzzle exchange Oct. 10

SALEM-Salem Public Library will hold a jigsaw puzzle exchange from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Quaker Room at 821 E. State St. Children's and adult puzzles will be accepted for the exchange at the adult circulation desk during regular business hours Sept. 25 through Oct. 9. Participants will receive one ticket for each puzzle. Tickets will then be used to select puzzles on Oct. 10. The puzzle exchange is open to all at no cost. For more information call 330-332-0042.

SALEM-A reunion planning meeting for the Salem High School Class of 1955 begins at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at the SHS Alumni Office on East State Street. The reunion will be held in July of 2010. All class members are welcome.

SALEM-The Banquet in Salem will hold a fund-raising picnic at 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at Centennial Park pavilion one. Everyone supporting Banquet activities is invited. Divorce recovery workshop scheduled Oct. 2-Nov. 6

SALEM- "Help Me Get Through This Divorce!" (a divorce recovery workshop) is being offered to the community each Friday at 7 p.m. from Oct. 2 through Nov. 6 at Faith Chapel Fellowship, 511 E. Pershing St. Topics include: Understanding the divorce experience, Getting My "Ex" in Focus, "Help! It Hurts So Bad!" "I Am So Angry" and more. 'Crop with a Friend' group

SALEM-The First Friends "Crop with a Friend" group will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at the church, 1028 Jennings Ave. Participants will learn to create a card that moves with a pendulum motion. Stamping will be included with this workshop. Those attending are asked to bring scissors, a circle Coluzzle, or a Coluzzle knife. Paper, inks, stamps and envelopes will be provided and precut.
