Veronica "Vernie" Malarchik

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP-There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009. at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Warren, with Celebrant Father Frederick E. Trucksis, preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, for Veronica "Vernie" Malarchik, 87, of Howland, who passed away Sunday Aug. 16, 2009, at Caprice Health Care Center in North Lima.

Veronica "Vernie" Malarchik was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Campbell, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Halula) Handlovich.

Vernie came to Warren area in 1944. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish of Warren, and the Church Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, and playing cards. She retired in 1980, after 23 years, from Packard Electric where she was a press operator.

Her husband of 65 years, Michael Malarchik, whom she married June 10, 1939, preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 2004.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy N. "Dolly" Malarchik of Howland, with whom she made her home, and Marilyn Herron of Salem; a granddaughter, Natalie Herron of Cleveland; a grandson, Jason Herron and his wife Emilia Mesquita of Sao Paulo, Brazil; a great-granddaughter, Nicole Herron; two sisters, Ann (Angelo) DeNicholas of Howland, and Margaret (Albert) Plak of Youngstown; and a brother -in-law Stephen Nanowsky of Youngstown. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Hyduchic; and three sisters, Mary Dunn, Helen Handlovich, and Julia Nanowsky; and a son-in-law Rolin William Herron Jr.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown 44512 or St. Joseph Church, 420 North Street NW, Warren 44483.
