Tullis reunion set

at Centennial Park

SALEM-Descendants of James and Roxanne Tullis will hold their annual reunion at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 in Pavilion 1 at Centennial Park. Those attending may take up to four items for the 2 p.m. white elephant auction. Dinner, which will be served at 4 p.m., and table service will be provided.

SHS Class of '72

announces breakfast

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1972 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Aug. 1 at the Skyline Diner on Route 45. Spouses and class teachers are also welcome to attend. Classmates and guests can look forward to sharing conversation and breakfasts the first Saturday of every month at the same time and location.

fundraiser planned

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1968 will host a Scholarship Fundraiser Benefit Production at 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at Salem Community Theatre. Tickets are $10 each and available at Kolby's of Salem, 330-332-3232, or Rick Berg, 330-853-4169.

to meet in Salem

HANOVERTON-United Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at the First United Methodist Church in Salem.

Children's benefit

concert at Ponderosa

SALEM-The Salvation Army and Ponderosa Park will present a Children's Benefit Concert at 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at Ponderosa Park, 9362 S. Salem-Warren Road. Scheduled to perform are the Abby Road Beatle Tribute Band, Night Moves (classic rock), Kross Creek (country and rock) and Tribute (50s-modern). All proceeds will benefit the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. Admission is $5 per person. Tickets are on sale at Quaker Village, Kendrick's Corner, Suntan Bay, Salvation Army, BB Rooners and Ponderosa Park. A classic car show will also be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at BB Rooners. Greenford Alumni

Banquet scheduled

GREENFORD-The 105th Greenford High School Alumni Banquet will be held on Aug. 15 at South Range Middle School on Route 165. A social time begins at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Cost is $20 per person. Reservations are due by Aug. 5 to P.O. Box 57, Greenford 44422. and spinners to meet

CANFIELD-The Youngstown Area Weavers Guild will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 12 on The Green in Canfield. Weavers and spinners, and the public, are welcome to attend. Information and techniques will be shared.

Lions club welcomes

guest singer at meeting

WEST POINT-West Point Lions Club President Betty Colian welcomed members and guest Neil Walters to the July 20 meeting held at the home of Sandie and John Shulas. Veronica Wolski gave the invocation prior to the coverdish meal. Neil Walters sang several selections following dinner. Members approved a donation to Camp Echoing Hill for their "Christmas in July" program where they raise funds to buy Christmas gifts for special need residents who live in homes throughout Ohio. Members also approved a donation for a hearing aid for a West Point area child.

The meeting on Aug. 3 is canceled as members will be involved with the Lions Den at the fair and the Highway/Byway Sale in August. A board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Taste of Country Restaurant. The Aug. 17 meeting begins at 7 p.m. at St. Agatha Hall.

Ellsworth School

reunion approaches

ELLSWORTH-The 75th annual Ellsworth School reunion will be held Aug. 8 at the Ellsworth Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Ellsworth Road. Those attending are to bring a coverdish, individual table service, and an item for the "white elephant" auction. Beverages will be furnished. Lunch begins at 12:30 p.m. All teachers and students who attended Ellsworth Township Schools are invited to attend and urged to bring their families and classmates.

Stockwell-Lease family

elects officers for reunion

SALEM-The Stockwell-Lease family reunion was held July 19 at Centennial Park with 43 family members and friends in attendance. Jeff Hughes gave the welcome and Michelle Daugherty offered the blessing prior to the 1 p.m. basket dinner. Hughes presided at a brief business session. Recognition was given to: Ann Daugherty, oldest in attendance; Landon Michael, youngest; and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schwerkut, traveled the furthest to attend.

Games, cornhole and bingo were played. Officers for 2010 are Hughes, president; Arnold Lease, vice president; Daugherty, secretary; and Dottie Coccia, treasurer. The next reunion will be held July 18, 2010.

Brown family reunion

held at Damascus Park

DAMASCUS-The David J. Brown and Alice M. (McMillan) Brown family reunion was held on July 12 at Damascus Park. Fifty-nine family members attended. Traveling the furthest to attend was Darrell Sturgill, a great-grandson, who resides in Escondido, Calif. A picnic/covered dish meal was enjoyed along with the traditional family cake. Games and a white elephant auction provided excitement for all ages. Door prize winner was Charlene Brown. Some of the family members who were unable to attend provided informative letters about their families. In an attempt to update the family tree, all changes and additions should be sent to Charlene Brown.

Area women artists

recognized at party

YOUNGSTOWN-The 27th annual Women Artists: A Celebration! patrons' party was held July 17. The art show recognized the talent and creativity of women artists. Displayed were paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, ceramics, textiles and metal works. Kimberly Koller-Jones, executive director of the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in New Castle, Pa., served as juror for the show.

The following area artists were honored at the patrons' party:

Watercolor Award, Erma E. Eaton of Salem;

YWCA Award, Jo Ann Buzulencia of North Jackson, "Time for Hope;"

Artists of Mahoning Commons Award, Nancy A. Hawkins of Columbiana.

Cash awards were presented to: Jamie M. Jamison of Canfield.

The show concluded on July 26 at the Butler Institute of American Art, Trumbull Branch in Howland. Suzanne Anzellotti-Ray and Brenda Myers Cohen served as co-chairs. Corporate event sponsor for the event was Home Savings.

Myers family holds

reunion in Salem

SALEM-The 41st annual Leo A. and Inez V. Myers family reunion was held on July 18 with Jim Myers as host at the Waterworth Memorial Park. There were 67 family members in attendance. A brief business meeting was conducted by Greg Marple President. Minutes from last years meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Edie Myers. Historian Tom Marple gave the report of three births: Ava Grace Myers to Selena and Mike Myers, Tayla Christina Zeppernick to Christina Sines and Chris Zeppernick, and Joseph Walter Bertin V to Joe and Robin (Marple) Bertin. One death was recorded, that of Leo Richard Marple Sr. It was announced that Robin (Marple) Bertin was inducted into Lisbon's sports hall of fame for basketball, volleyball, and track. She was a member of the 1992 TLC champs. Two Guys from Salem Tree Service received the Salem News Best of the Best for the second straight year. Owners of the business are Greg Marple and Pete Ostapiak.

Tom Marple asked if anyone would like to take over his position as historian and Christina Sines volunteered. Everyone that has any family happenings is asked to contact Sines.

Announcement was made by Chad Rhodes of a benefit golf outing for Bailey Shane Carr, a little girl with Wilms Tumor, a childhood kidney cancer, and contact him if interested in playing. Donations may be made to Huntington Bank.

Next year's reunion on the third Saturday in July will be hosted by Rich and Kim Myers. A door prize guessing game was held with Sarah Maguire as the winner.

Following the meeting games for children were played. The adults played cornhole.

Winners for the women's team were Donna Marple and Lori Nunzir, first place; Brenda Perevosnik and Ann Fuhrman, second. Men's team winners were Chad Rhodes and Brian McLaughlin, first; Mike Marple and Shawn Marple, second. Grand prize winners: women vs. men winners were the team of Chad Rhodes and Brian McLaughlin.
