Leetonia accepts bids for fire department equipment
By KEVIN HOWELL, Staff WriterLEETONIA- Village council accepted bids for fire department equipment at its regular meeting Wednesday night.
Having received a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant for $142,425 earlier this year, the department accepted bids for $116,961 worth of equipment, including a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), coats, pants and other uniform accessory items. The department has also set aside $13,340 for training that will be funded through the grant.
In other news, Village Administrator Gary Phillips informed council that the village has been awarded an $85,000 Community Development Building Grant (CDBG) through the county that will be used for the estimated $166,600 renovation of the water tower. The village will be responsible for for $81,000 of the project, Phillips said, so Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) or other outside funding may still be needed.
Phillips also shared with council the boundary and topographic surveys of the Cherry Valley Coke Ovens and American Legion baseball field completed by Howells and Baird Inc. The surveys are necessary for the the village to apply for any future projects, which includes the renovation of the coke ovens, he said.
Additionally, council hired Daniel L. Deluca of Boardman as a part-time police officer.
A Police Committee meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 1 in council chambers.
The next council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 1 in council chambers.
