Oilfield emergency training
GRANVILLE-Emergency responders from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, took part in the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program's Responding to Oilfield Emergencies Training Workshops in April and May. Local Columbiana County firefighter included Tom Graber of the Homeworth Fire Department.
Ohio took the lead in the U.S. by creating and implementing the nation's first Oilfield Emergency Response Training Program. OOGEEP's permanent training facility is located within the Wayne County Fire and Rescue Regional Fire School, in Applecreek. More than 490 Ohio firefighters, from 33 Ohio Counties and seven other states have participated in OOGEEP's unique training program. The program and training facilities have been funded 100 percent by Ohio's industry and do not utilize any taxpayer dollars.
"The program trains local fire fighters in effective emergency response practices at typical crude oil and natural gas drilling and production sites. And Ohio citizens should be honored that many other crude oil and natural gas producing states have looked to Ohio as a model to set up similar programs in their respective states," said Rhonda Reda, OOGEEP executive director and trainer.
