WELLSVILLE - A cashier at Rich Oil was robbed early Friday morning by a man who made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
According to police, the man entered from the Lisbon Street area and shoved the female cashier to the floor before grabbing money from the register and fleeing on foot on Lisbon Street.
The robbery occurred just before 1 a.m., with no weapons shown or seen, Chief Joe Scarabino reported.
The man was described as a light-complexioned black, with Fu Manchu-type mustache and a tattoo of some sort on his left hand near his thumb. He was about 6-feet tall and 280 pounds and was wearing dark clothing and a dark ball cap.
Patrolmen Shawn Bloor and Justin Wright are heading the investigation and have obtained surveillance tapes from the district manager of Rich Oil.
With nearby East Liverpool police having reported three break-ins at downtown businesses earlier this week, Scarabino said his officers will be comparing notes with officers there.
"We're not sure if it's related to East Liverpool or vice versa. If you didn't have the current economic condition and didn't have the drug problem, you wouldn't have things like this. It's a domino effect on crime. But every community police department would tell you the same thing is happening," Scarabino said.
