Salem

Vehicle, no owner

A N. Ellsworth Ave. resident reported at 9:43 a.m. Sunday sometime overnight he and two women had met a man, who asked them to take his vehicle to their home from the Heritage Club on West Fourth Street. They did not know the name of the vehicle's owner, and now did not know what to do with it. Police gave them the name of the owner, and they were able to contact him so he could pick it up.

Vehicle entered

A resident at 1108 E. Third St. reported at 10:51 a.m. Sunday her vehicle was entered sometime overnight and someone took her Ipod Nano, headphones, adapter and about 15 to 20 CDs. She believed the vehicle was locked.

A Sharp Ave. man reported at 9:35 a.m. Sunday sometime overnight someone entered his vehicle, took a Sony CD player from the dash and left the driver's door partially open.

Domestic

A mother at 1675 S. Lincoln Ave., reported she was having problems with her 17-year-old son, who was upset and having problems dealing with his anger. Both were calm when police left.

Accident

Angela Mountz, 33, 629 N. Beaver St., Lisbon, was eastbound on state Route 14 when Hallie Votaw, 78, 31154 Winona Road, was stopped in the driveway at the Marc's/Aldi's plaza waiting to turn east onto state Route 14. Votaw pulled out, striking the side of Mountz's vehicle, and she was cited with failure to yield. No injuries were reported.

Assist Portage County

The Portage County Sheriff's Department requested police contact a man and his daughter at 279 N. Lincoln Ave. at 12:47 a.m. Sunday. Police talked to a man there, who told them the people they were attempting to locate no longer live at the home and he did not know them.

Intoxicated man

An intoxicated man was reported refusing to leave the Foxes Den, 188 Railroad St., at 2:17 a.m. Sunday. One man was attempting to get his friend to leave while they waited for a ride that was coming for them. They were told to leave and wait for the ride at the Wing Warehouse. However, the one man still refused to leave and was making gestures and comments toward police. Finally they went, but with the police in the area, the one man continued to yell out more comments. Eventually, Adam Martig, 986 N. 14th St., Sebring, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Pickup missing

John Brackin, 1562 Southeast Blvd., reported he was at 333 W. Fourth St. at 2:45 a.m. Sunday for about 20 minutes and when he came out to leave, his pickup was missing. There were no keys in the truck, which was a white Ford F-150 with ladder racks and a black toolbox, belonging to his father.

Explosion reported

A loud explosion was heard by police at 6:31 a.m. Sunday, and a passing driver told police while he was at Circle K, South Lincoln Ave., and the computers went down. Police checked the area and spoke with security and employees at Freshmark, who also said they heard it, but did not know from where it came.

Bicycle found

A resident at 469 Franklin St. reported at 8:09 p.m. Saturday she found a bicycle on her property that did not belong to her children. It was placed in the recovered bicycle area at the police station.

Lines down

Lines were reported across the roadway in the 200 block of East Sixth Street at 7:57 p.m. Saturday. The line was a live electrical line, and police provided traffic control until Ohio Edison could respond.

Vehicle scratched

A W. Middletown Road, Canfield, woman reported her vehicle was scratched while parked at Wal-Mart. It appeared to have been caused by a cardboard tray or case of water bottles placed on the trunk and not carefully removed.

Hiding in closet

Thomas Phillips, 274 W. Wilson St., was found hiding in an upstairs bedroom closet when police checked his home at 5:48 p.m. Saturday. He was taken into custody on a warrant and released to county deputies.

Vehicle alarm

A suspicious vehicle with a siren or alarm was reported parked near the bathrooms in Centennial Park at 5:23 p.m. Saturday. The vehicles were gone before police arrived.

Domestic report

A domestic dispute was reported at 2561 Lexington Ave. at 4:24 p.m. Saturday. It was found to be an argument only, and the people were told to keep the noise levels down to prevent complaints from the neighbors.

Loud music

Police responded to the 500 block of E. Perry St. regarding a report of loud music at 4:15 a.m. Sunday and made contact with the home owner who was advised to keep it down.

Theft

Police responded to the 1700 block of E. State St. at12:55 p.m. Monday regarding a report of a female who wrote four bad checks totaling $560 to Gene's Drive Thru. The matter will be forwarded to the county prosecutor.

Juvenile problem

In the area of Franklin and Washington avenues police observed a male juvenile who appeared to be distraught at 9:08 a.m. Monday. He advised his family moved over the weekend and this was his first time walking to school and he became lost. Police gave him a ride to Southeast School and advised school personnel.

Traffic offense

Police responded to the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Ave. at 9:06 a.m. Monday and received paperwork from a school bus driver regarding a maroon-colored vehicle that passed a bus that had its red warning lights on in the 1700 block of N. Ellsworth Ave. earlier in the day. Police attempted to locate the vehicle.

Theft

Police received a complaint on station at 12:29 p.m. Monday about an incident that occurred on April 22, 2008. An unknown person removed a package that had been delivered by UPS and left on the porch. The package contained merchandise valued at $100. UPS confirmed delivery and contact will be made with local pawn shops to see it an attempt pawn it.

Burglary

Police responded to the 100 block of E. 3rd St. at 1:09 a.m. Monday, in reference to a burglary and the theft of a 26" television that was being rented.

Loud persons

Police responded to the 500 block of E. 3rd St. at 8:16 p.m. for an unknown noise or fight and a tenant said a friend came home drunk and they had an argument. The intoxicated person left to reportedly get more intoxicated before officers arrived. At 9:55 p.m. police returned to the residence regarding a loud person but did not hear anyone upon arrival. Police made contact with the tenant in question and he said he would keep the noise down.

Fight

Police responded to the 2800 block of 2800 block of E. State St. at 9:43 p.m. regarding a fight and the complainant advised a man had been driving recklessly through the parking lot and almost struck his vehicle. The complainant blew his horn at the other person who had stopped and got out to see what the problem was. The complainant advised the man started yelling at him and pushed him. All parties were advised to go their separate ways.

Phone harassment

Police received a complaint on station at 8:24 p.m. Sunday and were advised an ex-husband's wife was textile harassing messages. The complainant said there had been a problem in the past and just wanted documentation in case of any further problems.

Reckless operation

Police responded to the 1700 block of Ridgewood Dr. at 7:18 p.m. Sunday regarding a report of three vehicles operating in a reckless manner. Officers located vehicles matching the description parked in a private drive and spoke with the owners advising them of the complaint. Police did not observe any violations.

B&E

Police responded to the 700 block of S. Lundy Ave. at 7:10 p.m. Sunday where the complainant advised she locked the man she lives with out and he broke the back door to gain entry. Police attempted to explain that due to the fact he lived there he could not be charged with breaking and entering. Police were unable to locate the man.

Loud persons

Police responded to the 500 block of Walnut St. at 5:57 p.m. Sunday regarding a loud person causing a disturbance. The complainant said a neighbor's friend had let their dog loose and it went into her apartment and she tried to get it to leave and the other person started to raise her voice and continued causing a problem. Police advised all parties to stay away from each other. Police returned to the address at 6:45 p.m. and found there was a fight between two females over an ongoing tenant problem. Both were advised to stay away from each other and they agreed to.

Theft

Police received a complaint on station from a resident in the 500 block of N. Lincoln Ave. at 6:39 p.m. who advised their vehicle was entered overnight and 20 CDs and a case were stolen.

Well being

Police responded to the 700 block of W. State St. at 6:35 p.m. to check on the welfare of two juveniles that had been left at home. Police made contact with the 10 and seven-year-old who said their mother recently went to the store. Officers spoke with her about the dangers of leaving small children unattended.

Indecent exposure

Police responded to the area of Rose and E. 3rd St. at 6:06 p.m. regarding a report of a juvenile exposing himself to traffic. Police spoke to a group of juveniles in the 400 block of E. School St. One of them matched the description police were given. All denied being part of the incident.

Reckless operation

Police responded to the Speedway Gas station in the 100 block of W. State St. at 5:21 p.m. in reference to a possible intoxicated/reckless driver in a green Chevy truck with no tailgate. Police observed the vehicle exiting, traveling south on S. Howard Ave. Police made a traffic stop in the alley behind the 500 block of Walnut St. and the driver, Ronald W. Smith, 1184 E. Third St., Salem, was charged with an expired operator's license.

Speak with officer

Police responded to the 500 block of E. 3rd St. where the female tenant advised she couldn't sleep because of the constant party in a downstair's apartment in the neighbor's residence. She said they were constantly partying and playing music at unreasonable levels. While speaking with her, the vibrations from the music could be felt coming through the floors. The neighbor's were advised to keep the music down. Contact was also to be made with the landlord due to the constant problems at the residence.

Domestic

Police responded to the 300 block of W. Pershing St. after a juvenile female complainant reported a domestic situation at 12:44 a.m. Monday. Police met with her and she advised her mother and her boyfriend had gotten into a verbal argument which turned violent. She said her mother's boyfriend had shoved her into a wall. Written statements were taken from the mother and complainant. The mother had an old bruise from a previous domestic situation that was not reported to police. Digital photos were taken and police attempted to contact the male but he would not answer the door. The report will be sent to the prosecutor's office for possible charges against the male.
