Breakfast buffet planned at Salem Masonic Temple

SALEM-A public breakfast buffet will be open from 7:30 to 10 a.m. April 25 at the Salem Masonic Temple, 788 E. State St. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10, and free for children under 2.

The menu offers pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea. Carryouts are available. Proceeds are directed to the Salem Masonic Temple Building Fund. The building features a handicapped accessible elevator.

Class of 1941 to meet for

lunch at the Skyline Diner

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1941 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. April 20 at the Skyline Diner.

Monthly luncheon set for Bank One on April 21 at Sunny's

SALEM-Bank One retirees and former employees are invited to lunch at noon April 21 at Sunny's Chinese Restaurant.

Crop with a Friend to create

paper flowers on April 20

SALEM-The Salem First Friends "Crop with a Friend" scrapbook group will meet from 6:30 to 10 p.m. April 20 at the church.

Participants will learn how to create paper flowers with embroidered leaves and stems on the front of a card. Those attending are asked to bring a 12x12 piece of double sided pattern paper and a large eye needle (cross stitch or tapestry size). Debbie Miller will answer questions. Newcomers are welcome. COLUMBIANA-The Elkrun-Fairfield Friendly Homemakers will meet at 10 a.m. April 21 at Southern Terrace Park in Columbiana. Those attending are to bring a coverdish.

Augusta Class of '55 announces reunion dinner for April 25

HANOVERTON-The Augusta High School Class of 1955 has scheduled a reunion dinner at 1 p.m. April 25 at the Community Building. For information call 330-525-7785.

David Blasiman is guest speaker during April 6 Ruritan meeting

DAMASCUS-The Damascus Ruritan Club met April 6 with 23 members and two guests present. David Blasiman, superintendent at the Alliance Country Club, was the guest speaker. A native of Damascus, Blasiman has worked most of his life in golf courses in Ohio and Florida.

He spoke about his ongoing process of keeping the greens, fairways, and the grass in proper control regarding weeds, pests control, fertilizing and of course mowing. He made several suggestions which are beneficial to homeowners as well. A meal was prepared and served by the ladies of the Methodist Church.

The dinner committee chairman gave a report of the successful Swiss steak dinner on March 28 at West Branch High School. The High School Foreign Language Clubs helped serve the dinner.

A special thank you was extended to the Damascus Garden Club member who fixed the flower arrangements and placed them on the tables.

A highway clean up is scheduled on April 25 for the club's section of U.S. Route 62 from Route 534 west to Westville. Members will meet at the Friends Church parking lot at 9 a.m. Members voted financially sponsor a West Branch soccer team. A donation was approved to help Camp Whitewood through the Mahoning County 4-H program. The club also voted to contribute to the West Branch Academic Recognition Banquet in May. Approval was granted for Olivia Stoffer as a youth member of the club. Her great-grandfather Wilson Morlan was a charter member of the Damascus Club in 1953.

Richard Eck new member

of Winona Ruritan Club

WINONA- Winona Ruritan Club President Bruce Marhefka installed Richard Eck as a new member when the group met March 31 at Willow Grove Grange.

Forty-one members attended. Homer Althouse reported that the semi-annual pancake and sausage breakfast on March 28 was successful. Proceeds from the breakfast are distributed to the community as donations to organizations including Columbiana County Special Olympics, Salem and Hanoverton Salvation Army, United Way, Goshen-Butler Fund, United Community Food Basket, Winona Volunteer Fire Department, Columbiana County Fair Board-Beef Complex-4-H trophies, Columbiana County Soil and Water District, Franklin Junior 4-H Club, United 4-Hers Club, Boys and Girls State delegates, and the club's scholarships. The next meeting on April 28 will be held at the Winona Methodist Church.

R-Weigh recognizes Dianne Scott who reaches goal weight

SALEM-The R-Weigh weight reducing support groups met Monday at Faith Chapel. Dianne Scott, a member of the afternoon group, was recognized for reaching her goal weight and was presented a monetary award.

Good losers were Faith Hodnick, Lou McAngus and Scott. Leota Donaldson was the goalie of the week and Scott earned the eight weeks of losing award. The new ZINGO contest winners were Joyce Sanders, Sue Kinirons and Hodnick.

Kinirons presented a program on various topics and a discussion followed. Good loser at the 5 p.m. meeting was Peggy Kurtz.

Goalies of the week were Jo Carol Gray and Karen Pauline. ZINGO contest winners were Lois Kepics, Sara Smith and Kurtz. Pauline presented a program on healthy eating for the brain and memory.

West Point Lions welcome

Lisbon Lions members

WEST POINT-West Point Lions Club President Jane May welcomed members and guests from the Lisbon Lions Club, Shirley Jenkins and Arla Ehrhart, to the April 6 meeting held at St. Agatha Hall. Veronica Wolski gave the invocation. A slate of officers was presented to the membership by Judy Rice, and accepted by the club.

Eight members will be attending the spring conference on April 25. The April 20th meeting will be held at St. Agatha Hall at 7 p.m. Guest speaker will be diabetes chairperson Lyn Lough.

Butler Grange reviews

latest census report

SALEM-Camille Wood presided when Butler Grange met Saturday. Unity Grange presented the traveling program to Butler Grange. Butler Grange presented the traveling program to Mile Branch Grange on April 13.

The opening song was "The Quilting Party." Myrtle Bailey said the latest census report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been published and the number of farms in this country is on the increase. But that is not the case here in Ohio, according to Bailey Harry Foster presented the program from Unity Grange, "Easter." Readings: Celebrating Easter, Vicki Foos; Ham the Traditional Easter Dinner, Paul Mollenkopf; Easter Baskets, Elmer Simon; Easter Eggs, Betty Kalbfell; Easter at the Whitehouse, John Patterson. A race was held to transfer eggs to a basket with spoons. Readings included, "The return of spring," Courtney Hephner; and "The Easter Robin," Virginia Foster. Songs were "Here Comes Peter Cottontail," by Hannah Hephner as the Easter Bunny distributed treats to each person. Several members paraded in their Easter Bonnets during the parade and the final presentation of "The Old Rugged Cross." Ruth Ann Altenhof offered a deaf report: "The 10 misconceptions about hearing loss."

The closing song was "Beautiful Ohio." March card winners were: first place, Bill Maple and Audrey Weingart; Jay Lafferre and Barb Diehl, second place. Fawn Smith won the door prize. Pomona Grange meets at Yellow Creek Grange at 7 p.m. April 20 for the baking contest judging.

Saxon Retirees retain

officers for next year

SALEM-The Saxon Retirees' April Fool's Day meeting was attended by 50 members. Cao Li was a guest and Marcia Spack welcomed as a new member. Marie Cook and Evelyn Yuhanick thanked the retirees for cards received.

The same officers will retain their positions for next year. The officers are President Lois Whitacre, Vice President Bob Kekel, Secretary-Reporter Sue Fritzman and Treasurer Katherine Lederle. The committee staff will also continue their positions including Clem Vogt, Bill Hiltbrand and Nancy Stumperth. Installation of officers will be held at the May 6th meeting with Helen Aeling as installing officer.

The menu offers ham loaf, cheesy potatoes, peas and carrots, cole slaw and dessert. The committee will consist of the officers for this event. Reservations are required with cancellations due May 4 or the party will be responsible for the meal. Reservations are to be called in to Fritzman at 330-332-5250. Cost is $6 for members and $8.50 for guests.

Jim Freeman provides GV Rewards information

NEW WATERFORD-The New Waterford Lions held their meeting April 2 at the Community Building. Guest, Jim Freeman, attended to provide information about GV Rewards which is available to raise funds for non-profit organizations. The first reading of the slate of officers for 2009-10 was presented. Club members conducted a road clean-up recently, but due to the amount of litter another is planned soon.

Whole hog sausage is available in 1-pound packages for $3.50 either hot or regular flavor in patties. To order contact Dwain Hawkins at 330-457-2904.

Ellis Hawkins, advisor for Crestview Leo's, reported 24 members assisted with the recent roast beef dinner. Members have scheduled a road clean up on May 7.

Dick Sell, advisor for the Heartland Christian Church Leo's, reported that a nursing home visit is scheduled soon. The club's 52 Charter Night will be held May 7 with wives as guests.
