SALEM-The Duo Decem Club is celebrating its 55th anniversary. Its members are comprised of classmates from Goshen High School and friends who chose the name Duo Decem which means 12 in Latin.
"The club was organized one evening in 1953 at the home of Rita and Ken Schoeni," said Ginny Bardo, an original member of Duo Decem. "They later moved to Bowling Green where Ken was employed at Bowling Green State University."
In addition to Schoeni and Bardo, the original members were Delora (Hoopes) Anthony, Doris Stryffler, Alice Martig, Celesta Weingart, Ann McDaniels, Sue (Hoopes) Oesch, Mary (Hoopes) Sawyer, Beverly Mosher, Gloria Kurena, Cressie Hoopes and Ruth Myers. Celesta Weingart and Sue Oesch are deceased.
Through the years, the members have played cards and enjoyed picnics, Halloween parties and Christmas with each other and their families which boasts a total of 59 children and later with their many grandchildren.
"As our families grew we traveled more and dined out, touring many lovely locations," said Bardo. Ten members celebrated their 50th year anniversary in 2003 at the J.B. King Bed and Breakfast in Hudson where they visited many historic sites and lovely homes. The 55th celebration was held at the Blue Canyon Lodge in Twinsburg.
