Mr. and Mrs. Ray Baughman Jr. of 3495 Silliman St., New Waterford, observed their 50th wedding anniversary at a dinner at Taste of Country in Lisbon on Jan. 31. Following dinner, the couple was honored at a dance at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Lisbon where Pure Gold, featuring her brother, Bob Whitacre, and nephew, Jerry, performed. Bob Whitacre also played and sang at the Baughman's wedding 50 years ago.
The former Virginia L. "Ginny" Whitacre and Mr. Baughman were married on Jan. 31, 1959, by the Rev. Charles Richardson.
The couple's children are Randy Baughman of Negley, Linda Zepernick of New Waterford and John Baughman of Girard. They also have two grandchildren, Jennamae Baughman of Girard and Jennifer and Matt Kosman of East Palestine; and four stepgrandchildren.
Mr. Baughman was employed as a molder at Columbiana Pump for 32 years. He retired from the New Waterford Village street department. From 1955 to 1957 he served in the Army and served 22 months in Okinawa, Japan. He also was a Little League coach.
Mrs. Baughman is a pie baker and homemaker. She enjoys the piano and flowers.
The Baughmans moved to the New Waterford area in 1961.
Another reception is being held at their home today, hosted by their children. Special guests were Janice Weingart of Salem, who served as maid of honor at their wedding, and Paul Falkner of Columbiana, who was the best man.
