Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mather of 13795 Route 534, Salem, will be honored on the occasion of their 70th wedding anniversary at an open house reception from 1 to 4 p.m. March 1 at the Damascus Fire House, 14860 Route 534, Damascus. The festivities will be hosted by their children, Tom and Carmel Mather, Bob and Barb Mather and Jack and Virginia Mather, all of Salem, Rick and Lynn Mather of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bonnie and John Woodman of Coopersville, Mich, and Terri and Leland McDonald of Beloit. Joining in the celebration will be the couple's 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mather was a self-employed carpenter for 60 years. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and was a volunteer fireman and EMT for Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, retiring in 1998. His memberships include Damascus Ruritan Club, American Legion and United Commercial Travelers. He enjoys woodworking and antique cars.
Mrs. Mather worked as a nurse at Valley Road Nursing for 12 years and also worked at Copeland Oaks and retired after 27 years. After her retirement she did private duty. She is a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and enjoys ceramics and crocheting.
