John Perrotto, the dean of beat reporters covering the Pittsburgh Pirates, has joined piratereport.com. For the past 21 years, Perrotto has covered the Pirates for the Beaver County Times, Beaver Falls, Pa.
Beginning Jan. 18 he will provide coverage of day-to-day news of one of baseball's most storied fanchises. His work will be distributed to and published by a network of regional newspapers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio with more than 290,000 paid circulation.
The Salem News is one of the newspapers which will publish Perrotto's coverage of the Pirates.
Perrotto has covered the Pirates since the 1988 season. He is a 12-time chairman of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, a post he currently holds. He has served on the Baseball Writers' national board of directors and its internet and media guide committees.
He has been a frequent contributor to Baseball America for 18 years.
He also writes for Baseball Prospectus.
Perrotto will provide in-depth coverage of the Pirates and their farm system. He will write home game coverage, player profiles, transaction information, features and breaking news concerning the Pirates. He will be on the scene throughout spring training and will cover the opening series in St. Louis against the Cardinals.
His work will begin with coverage of several stops on the Pirate's winter caravan as players and announcers visit several cities in the region. The caravan kicks off at Seven Springs Ski Resort on Sunday, Jan. 18.
He will also provide a daily blog which can be accessed from each of the daily newspapers carrying his work.
