County sets surplus auction for Sept. 18
By MARY ANN GREIERLISBON - Area residents looking for a government bargain may want to mark Sept. 18 on their calendar - that's the date the commissioners and other offices plan to auction off stuff they can no longer use.
The auction will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the old county home property on County Home Road in front of the county jail complex. Material in the past has included old desks and chairs, file cabinets, computers and vehicles.
The commissioners agreed Wednesday to contract with Jim Kellner of Leetonia for auctioneer services. Kellner will receive 10 percent of the income from the sale, which generally doesn't garner much money.
In other business, commissioners agreed to reappoint Michael Ryan of Wellsville to the Buckeye Water District board for another six-year term beginning in January. Commissioner Jim Hoppel abstained from the vote. He questioned whether they should look at having more people on the board from the townships served by the district. The townships, the village of Wellsville and the commissioners each appoint three representatives to the board.
Hoppel said Ryan's reappointment would mean Wellsville has four residents on the board, although he did say Ryan was a good representative.
The commissioners also met behind closed doors with county Department of Job and Family Services Director Eileen Dray-Bardon on a personnel matter, agreeing to approve her recommendation to dismiss a probationary employee in the Children Services division for unsatisfactory performance of duties.
