Mr. and Mrs. Iwan Prychodczenko of Salem celebrated 50 years of marriage on July 13. They were surprised at a mutual high school graduation/golden anniversary celebration on July 25 at the Saxon Club in Salem. The festivities were hosted by their children, Michael Prychodczenko and Christine Kline, both of Salem, and their grandson, Robert Kline.
The former Alexandra Petrachkoff, daughter of the late Maria (Chesnova) and Vasilij Petrachkoff, and Mr. Prychodczenko, son of the late Chrystia (Zawora) and Ewlampij Prychodczenko, were married on July 13, 1958, by the late Right Reverend Father William Olenik in the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Belle Vista Avenue in Youngstown.
Mrs. Prychodczenko was born on Sept. 29, 1940, in Bezhitsa, Russia, and came to the United States at Ellis Island on Feb. 16, 1951. She was employed as a janitress, retiring in September 1987 from the former Salem Tool Company.
Mr. Prychodczenko came to the United States at Brooklyn, N. Y., on Feb. 17, 1957. He was born on Nov. 1, 1927, in Karpilowka, Ukraine, and was employed for many years as a machinist at the Hunt Valve Company, retiring in November 1990 to "help babysit" his newborn grandson.
The Prychodczenkos are enjoying their retirement days, either shopping for "goodies" or helping out at their son's farm.
